Error 1022 Keeps Coming Back
« on: August 25, 2008, 03:54:00 PM »

I have an Elite xbox which originally had gotten the 0102 error. I did the heat gun and x-clamp fix and it worked great! After about 2 weeks it RRoD'd again with error 1022 (A/V error). I did some research and found out its a problem either with the encoder chip or the A/V cable. Well I narrowed it down to the chip so I hit it with the heat gun for a minute or 2. To my delight, it worked! At that time I then went ahead and added the 12v fan mod. Error 1022 has come back again, the heat gun trick fixed it again! But since it came back twice i'm pretty confident it's going to happen again.

Has anyone encountered this issue? What can I do to keep 1022 from coming back?

Again - x-clamp mod, 12V mod and heatgun. Works for about 2 weeks and 1022 keeps coming back. Is there any pressure being put on that chip? its kinda above the GPU i can't figure this out?

Thanks everyone!

For how long did you heatgun, which area at what temps, did you do bottom and top and did you take breaks of 45 minutes in between?

Well the heatgun is Wagner 750 degrees low and 1000 degrees high. I am only hitting the HANA chip right above the CPU (not directly on it but all around the general area in motion). Low for about 1.5-2 minutes and then high about 1.5-2 minutes on the top and only a few seconds on high on the bottom. And this is actually getting it to work again... but only temporarily. This is already telling me 1022 is definitely a problem with that chip, but is there any pressure put on in that specific area at all? Maybe I should try to loosen everything a bit, even though i don't over tighten?

Youve done it kind of wrong...

For E74 / 1022 you have to concentrate on the HANA AND GPU area.
In most cases the cold solder joint is on the upper side of the GPU, where the ERAM is...

And your timing/temperatures are kind of wrong as well...
You have to do it like that.At first you do the bottom, you concentrate on the area under GPU and HANA of course wink.gif
Preheat it on 750 for 1 minute and then do 4 minutes on 1000, circular motions...
Then let it cool down for 45 minutes....
After that turn it around and isolate the top properly...
Same procedure there, first 1 minute preheating on 750 and then 4 minutes on 1000.
After that another 45 minutes for the cool down process...

While heatgunning/ cooling down DONT EVER TOUCH THE MAINBOARD or you will screw it up.
The timing is very important, if you do it only for 3 minutes it doesnt reflow properly and if you do it for 5 minutes the isolation will start burning.
4 minutes is just the perfect time.
I guess I dont have to tell you that isolating is definitely necessary at these temps...

Check out my heatgunning tutorial if you have any more questions because it is all explained thoroughly in there, you can find the link in my signature...

I have the same problem on 2 of my 360 boxes. I alreadydid the xclamp method on both and they functioned well for about 4 months. Now I have  E74 and error code 1022. I have never done the heatgun method which I read in the tutorial, but am going to give it a try. I know where the GPU is but don't know the location of the HANA. Maybe you guys can help me out? Thanks uhh.gif

If you're looking at the board with GPU on the left and CPU on the right, the ANA/HANA chip is right above the GPU. Follow the awsome instructions from Willhelm, mine is working again I guess we'll see for how long this time... I've fixed many many MANY xbox's with the heat gun and x-clamp replacement, this one just seems to need EXTRA heat. Good luck.

Ye E74s are a pin in the arse.
I always reflow the 360s with this one.
Make sure that you follow the timings properly, needs to be at least like 3.30 minutes on high to work properly.
Just fixed one today with heatgunning + hybrid....
If you need some help with it add me on MSN/Yahoo

I have the same thing with an xbox elite, E74 error. Error code is same as yours. I have heat gunned and xclamp replacement. Heatgunned the board as per wilhelm_1's instructions. The fix worked for about a week then it went again, so I did it again this time with a little bit closer, again fixed for about 1 week.

I don't think I have got it hot enough, is there something I can look for that would indicate it is cooked right? I'm a little worried about blowing caps. I do have the other areas of the board isolated.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks
