Thats funny tweak. I would be interested in hearing from someone who does not work for XIM about comparing the two devices. The XIM would have to work a lot better in order to warrant taking the time to solder all those points. I will probably check it out; because hey, who doesnt need another mod for their 360.

It is then connected to your Xbox via the wired controller's USB cable and connected to your PC via the USB cable soldered to the XIM PCB.

This is a cool idea, but it's useless unless it's connected to a PC all the time? Make this a standalone unit and I'll take 2!

There is a reason it is not a standalone unit. It allows you to use all PC compatible input devices with your 360. This can't be done with a standalone unit.

As someone who has used both the XFPS Sniper 3.0 and XIM, I have to say the XIM is the superior of the two. Control is much more precise due to the XIM having customizable software which handles the translation of mouse movements into controller input. This is also why it can not be reliably reduced to a standalone unit, as without the software, you would be forced to use preset parameters (e.g. deadzone, X/Y-axis translation and sensitivity, smoothing, etc.) for translation which would result in no two games handling as well as possible.

A game like Battlefield: Bad Company has a larger deadzone than Call of Duty 4. With the XIM software, we can instruct the XIM to send only signals which will begin at the threshold required for cursor movement for each game. It essentially cuts out the deadzone that would normally be on the analog stick to avoid giving the mouse an unresponsive and loose control. If we remove that ability, you are forced to find a middle-ground between a small and large deadzone, which ends up making Call of Duty 4 receive signals that the analog stick is moving more than at least the minimum amount needed, while Battlefield will receive signals from small mouse movements that will not be of the intensity required to move the cursor or viewpoint controlled by the analog stick.

This is actually what the XFPS seems to do, and by requiring each game to use the same set of signals for deadzone, it does not allow many games with larger deadzones to be used with a mouse in any manner approaching playability. Though some of us can tough it out, it requires you be absolutely horrid with a controller and much better with a mouse to show any real benefits. The example I use is that of myself, of course. I was mainly a PC gamer prior to buying a console, primarily a CS:S player that held a 2+ kdr while having the occasional luck of landing in the area of 3-5 kdr.

With a controller in Halo 3, I might grab a .8 kdr. With the XFPS for a few games, I managed to end with a 2.56 kdr. Now, with more games and an XIM I have been swinging over and under a 2 kdr for the games I play, though how well I do still depends heavily on the people I play against (I can go from 4-9 to 16-5 between two games).

Enough useless type. Fileshare videos of Halo 3 with the XFPS and XIM are located at:
http://www.bungie.ne...r...ver of Lulz

Useless screenshots to back up CS:S claims:

Funny to see people think I work for XIM.  Not true at all, and if you don't want to read there about the pathetic XFPS, just search these forums.  You'll see people aren't satisfied either way.  I'm just trying to spread the love for the PC-enthusiast looking for that experience on a console.

So, what's the good news in all of this blabbering? The XIM2 is now being pre-ordered and will ship in 2 weeks.

Our community is fairly small right now, but it's full of eager and helpful people.

You are distributing them to make yourself a profit are you not. If not why are you using every opportunity to insert links to the product.
This thread is hanging on as it is. it is a blatant sales advertising post in general hardware.
then we see brand new posters appearing with the first post to back up this unit.
If this was posted in here as news then fair enough, but it is not.
I have already had requests for closure of this as advertising.

I don't have any experience of them. I am a controller person (and crap with it).
I am however suspicious of  this product when there are no full contact details on the site and this is clearly an advertising post.
Now this may all be legit and a very good device and I would certainly like to hear a review from someone on XS that is a long term user of such devices.
I noticed there are complaints about it on their own forums.
I would consider purchase of such only when it matches the performance of the gaming via PC and is a direct connect device to the 360 by an approved MS third party.
I certainly think there is a market for it.

That's too bad since my PC isn't in the same room as my 360. I guess the XFPS is my only option. Oh well, it's still better than than using the controller.

I highly doubt this can't be done stand alone w/ user configurable controls, It may be difficult but to make such a bold statement as that it can't be done is probably enough to convince someone to do it.

I think what you meant to say is that it can't be done cheaply enough to make it a viable consumer product.  If you can run linux on a chip set that is used in routers, than you could develop something to do this in a similar fashion.  The problem here is that the market is not big enough to justify the thousands of $$$ it would take to develop this.

This would make for a good senior computer engineering project though.

I have no stake in the XIM product whether it succeeds or fails.  The only thing I've done is purchased the hardware to use.  I originally created this thread to share as a news item because the first submission I made was completely ignored.  I have already given XanTium the necessary contact information to get a sample of the product once the PCBs have shipped from the factory, which are being ordered today :-)

Oh, and the whole "our community" thing, being a member of the forums makes me part of the whole, thus my choice in said possessive pronoun.  I'll make a better choice in words next time so as not to be flamed again.

I give up.  Apparently being passionate and excited about something new is a bad thing these days?

I've used the XFPS and it is probably the worst experience I've ever had on an xbox. If you try to move the mouse over just a bit it jumps about halfway across the screen. Zeroing in on an object on the screen is really impossible and you'll be dead by the time you do get it right. The XFPS connects a keyboard and mouse to the 360 but that's about all it does. Out of 10 it is definitely a 1 because it can't do anything properly.

I don't work for the creators of this product in any way, though I have been around the XIM community for a while. But, I think the XIM could really open up something new in console gaming. There are many positive reviews of the XIM1 from their website and the XIM 360 is supposed to be an improvement over that product. I think you don't see reviews from anywhere else because this product hasn't permeated throughout the gaming community quite yet. If the XIM 360 gets the exposure it deserves it could be something that is standard on next generation consoles.

This thread is blatant promotion of a product but so is the story about Microsoft Lips and the skateboard for the 360. The only difference is that people are aware of those products and want to know more. The XIM hasn't had any exposure so it has to fight for any exposure it gets. The guys who are working on XIM, as far as I know, aren't bigshots who are making millions off of this thing. They are guys who saw a problem with a product and had the skills and knowledge to do something about it. Their message board system is similar to Xbox-Scene where you can ask questions and you might get an answer from the head honchos themselves, like you might here from Caster or others.

I think this could be a great product that gets around a huge problem as far as console gaming is concerned and I would like to see reviews and more news stories from it on the Xbox-Scene home page in the future.
