Which Dvd Drive To Get As Replacement?
« on: July 16, 2008, 08:44:00 AM »

My DVD drive is dying and I voided the warranty on the box so can't get a repair from MS. I already flashed the drive, though, and so I have my drive keys backed up. I'm looking on ebay/etc for a replacement drive: which is the best to buy? The current drive is a MS25 Toshiba-Samsung. I'm already banned from Live and I think my xbox predates the drive model checking anyway, so I should be able to use any drive (except the new unflashable one), right? What's the most compatible with media, etc?

Thanks for any suggestions!

The best one is the BenQ but it is quite expensive.
You could also just get another Samsung then you could just swap the PCB boards and dont have to flash the drive...
It would be much cheaper...

I disagree with Benq's being the best. I've found that load times on them are shockingly bad. Stick with the Samsungs as I've never had a problem with loading times on them. Benqs are far too picky with media too.

This is why I close these kinda threads, there's no correct answer as everyone has a favorite or just had a bad experience with one model and the next model they tried was just better, so naturally to them it is better. They all do what they're supposed to do and there are gems and duds of them all, so roll the dice and take yer pick. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
