Anyone Else Experience This In A Dvd Drive?
« on: February 02, 2020, 08:13:00 PM »

I've opened up alot of xbox's and xbox 360's and I've repaired quite a few DVD, drives but I never seen this.

This Samsung TS-H943 logic board came out of an unmodded 360.  It belongs to a friend and he told me that just recently he put a movie in the 360 and it just froze.  The 360 still turns on but the drive is dead.  After removing the logic board, and noticing what appeared to be melted plastic all over it, I thoroughly checked the inside of the drive but nothing appears to be melted.  I even tried replacing the laser with one out of a bricked Hitachi, but it didn't work (I already knew that).  Of course, since it's unmodded I don't have the key.  I'm assuming it's the board itself that's bad.

Does anyone think they can extract the key from the eeprom with a programmer.  Any recommendations or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response.  I wasn't able to access the link you posted but now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense. (I search and research everything else I've ever learned about xbox's but never gave any thought to anti-modding paste. I had no idea this was done. Kinda feel stupid now (that's why I don't post much)! LOL.  Anyway, I guess that answers my question as to whether or not anyone would be willing to extract the eeprom.  Probably impossible at this point or maybe just not worth the time and effort.  Thanks again StrictPuppet.  Have a good one!

There are no stupid questions.... well there are I guess, but yours wasn't one of them.  It is entirely possible to extract the drive key with a programmer, but I find it unlikely that that the key cannot be retrieved in the normal fashion.  I am guessing thats a late '06  ms-28, and should be easily read using a via vt6241 chipset and the badflash method.  Google for "Textbook's Xbox 360 Firmware Flashing Tutorial", it should contain all the info you need.

Even if it can't be extracted the normal way, removing the epoxy and getting the chip off to dump it with an external programmer isn't really that difficult, just a little bit of patience is all it takes, plus the programmer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) It may not be something ya want to do for your first time though if you're after the key on it, but it can be done. If ya can't get it dumped the normal way PM about having it removed/extracted, I can help ya out. Plenty of other guys in the Modchip Installers FW Flashers forum could as well and are from all over.
