Strange Benq Drive Tray Problem
« on: June 07, 2008, 03:15:00 PM »

OK. Um, I got a BenQ and I can't get the tray to open when I have the bottom panel on the DVD drive.

You know, the metal thing that you can unscrew and take off.

When I have it on, I hit the eject button, and the drive tray doesn't move at all, maybe like 1 mm or something very small, and then just sits there until it loads itself.

But I take off the bottom panel, all is good....how do I fix this? There is an IC on the PCB that has a thermal pad that interfaces with the bottom panel so I believe that this sucker gets hot and I don't want to have it just out in the open without a heatsink.

Any thoughts?

Never seen a BenQ drive personally, but it's obvious what the problem is. It's binding up on something when ya have the cover there on, screws too long maybe? Cover is bent and is hitting something it shouldn't? It really shouldn't be that difficult to track that problem down.
