Hey guys. The X-clamp fix helped me for a long while, but I'm starting to get freezes once again making the console pretty much unplayable.

I was thinking of purchasing a pre-owned console and then opening it up to swap my current flashed drive with the new one. Is this possible? Or is there some kind of mechanism in the xbox that detects a foreign drive?

Each Xbox 360 has a significant KEY with the dvd drive. Simply replacing the dvd drive will not work because the keys won't match with each other.

You need to get the key of the old dvd drive and and insert it to the drive you intend to use.

On top of that, you'll have to spoof it as well if the drives are a different model/version from each other.

The easiest thing to do is just hack the new drive and be done with it. Plenty of tutorials in the Newbie Chat and DVD-ROM Technical forums Pinned topics for whichever method ya go with. I'd wait and see what the other 360 has in it for a drive before I'd decide, but either way what ya want to do is possible, it's just not as easy as 'plug & play' is all.
