Freezing After 15 Minutes
« on: May 24, 2008, 01:10:00 PM »

hey all, I'm having a slew of issues. Not so much with the xbox itself but with the company that was supposed to repair it. Have any of you ever used www.videogamefixer.com? This might be the worst company ever, I would trust Enron execs before the baffoon that runs this place. I sent them my xbox (which was a nice quiet benq drive, with no physical issues), it had sound but no video and my warranty was voided. He said I needed a video scaler chip. I mailed it off and paid my $95 cost to have it repaired. About a month later and after me calling and sending countless emails with no responce, mind you his site states 1-2 day repair turnaround, I get a system shipped back to me that wasnt' mine, was a loud drive, the case was disgusting and it freezed up every 20 minutes. Going back and forth with this guy, I had to send back the one he sent me, he states he doesn't know which unit was mine. Another few weeks go by and I get another system, this time a clean quiet system. I think finally I can play..nope...this one too freezes every 10-15 minutes. This has been going on since March 26th and I have yet to play one game. Has anyone else dealt with this guy? I would adive if you haven't, don't put yourself in that prediciament. I am trying my hardest to get my money refunded to me now. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can repair this freezing issue myself?

i would surely do an X-clamp fix, and if you have one, heat gun GPU and Scaler chip and everthing in between

ps that guy sounds to me like an absolute fraud

I'll give that all a shot. Also, not sure how possible this is, but I can't find any tutorials for scaler chip replacement, any suggestions where i might find one? And where would i purchase the scaler chip?

The freezing sounds like an overheating gpu. Happened to me, even with an xclamp replacement. What fixed it for me was 12v fan mod and fan shroud mod.

You surely dont need a new scaler chip if he would have desoldered it your 360 would not even turn on anymore.
The problem is most likely the GPU so just tighten/loosen the screws of the X-Clamp replacement(if it was applied already).
If you cant get it to work like that get a heatgun and heatgun the GPU. Reflowing the scaler chip is only necessary if it either shows E74 or if you get graphical errors like artifacts that cover the whole screen, if you have dead pixels or if the screen color changes.
Freezing is GPU...
