0102 Error Code After Xclamp And 3 Pennies
« on: May 04, 2008, 04:58:00 PM »

Hi all

My Uncle's XBOX 360 froze and showed 3ROD. After diagnosing it got 0020 error code. It didn't had any warranty so we didn't had nothing to lose. I open his XBOX 360 and cleaned the cheap thermal compound that Microsoft uses. Changed the Xclamp and added 3 pennies to the memory. Put everything back together and I got 3Rod. I removed the fans and let it bake for a while then 3 changed to 2 I shut it off and let it cool down. After that the XBOX 360 worked. Everything was fine for a month and yesterday I got a call from my uncle that when he's trying to play GOW or any other game it works for 1-2 minutes and then he gets 3ROD and he can see glitches on the screen some kind of blur. I told him to shut the XBOX 360 and to not turn it on until I will check it. I got it and turned it on and it worked. I inserted Dark Sector . First it got stuck on the first screen. After changing the position it got to a new game selection menu and you could see blur and things that shouldn't have to be there and then 3ROD error code 0102. I opened the box and cleaned the thermal compound, set everything up and again 0102. OK I told to my self it's baking time. And after a while 3 lights changed to 2. I gave it 15-20 min to cool down and turned it on but it still shows me 3rod with error code 0102.

I tried everything that I can.

1.Changed 3 pennies to 2 and rebuild the pennies but nothing.
2.Lose the screws and even I changed the washers but nothing.
3.Used contacts cleaner spree on all the board
4.Changed the PSU (Even it works great on mine)
5. Force\Lose  the screws that hold the motherboard to the case.
6.The towel trick (I know it's dumb but nothing seems to work)

All the capacitors are in good shape. I don't see anything broken or blown.

I googled it and didn't find anything special. People who tried 3 pennies and Xclamp but I did those things.

Any ideas anything?

I will update...

0020 is becuas ethe screws are too tight, try looseing them. You board is warping and you need to determine where the sweet spot is, the screws do not necesserily need to be tight!
