Dvd Rail Adjustment

I have been messing with Dirty disk read errors lately,So I decided to do pot tweak,tried Different laser's.And with No luck. I read that you can adjust the rail height for the lens, So I tried this and to my joy Games started booting,but my question is,Where was it in the First place?(Rail settings) Some games are having problems  booting or they quit now after startup.

I relized that when you tighting the Blk plastic parts after messing with the laser that it will change the adjustment of the rails.Now down the road if I ever do this again I will mark rail settings with a Marker or something.Has anyone had any luck adjusting these rails, and where's a good start point?
