i read somewhere here that if you replace the rubberband by the front pully with a smaller rubber band that will work. I still have to get a smaller rubber band

I had this exact problem a while back.
I had to take the dvd drive out and apart.
There is a tiny little donut shaped magnet on the center of the spindle that came unglued and was magnetized to the top of the dvd drive casing inside.
I reglued that magnet back into the spindle, and all was good.

Just so happens that now my drive isnt reading any game discs. May or may not be unrelated. Lasted about 2 months.

I'll try taking the drive apart to see if this "donut" came unglued. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry about the back to back post.

OK, it was the little magnet. So I glued it back in and it gave me the open tray error. So I tried slightly adjusting the POT. Now the disc isn't even spinning up. What could the problem be now?

Should I just find another 78fk version Hitachi and put this ones board in it?
