Can I Put A Used 120 Gb Pc Hdd In Xbox?
« on: April 15, 2005, 01:14:00 PM »

I just acquired 2 used, but fully functional 120 GB WD HDDs that were used in a pc. Can I install them into modded boxes without much hassle? I know how to upgrade using Xenium OS and also, I have done the HDD upgrade using EvoX from a disk. And I am just becoming familiar with Slayers.

Can anyone tell me if the process is the exact same, or do I need to prep them somehow?

If you do not need anything off them then I would just use slayer and it's a no brainer.

You can install them no worries. as mentioned just use the Slayers disk to reformat and prepare the drives with the apps and dash stuff.
make sure the jumper on the drive is set to cable select.

I have a modded xbox with a xemiun chip. I went to replace the HD to a 120 maxtor and the now my box freezes at the Xemiun flashscreen and the mod chip has a solid red light. I thought I might have bumped the mod chip. So I tried to adjust the mod chip. If I take the chip off it's pins the box will boot like normal I but I get a error 16 with the original HD because the evox is installed. My question is there a way of booting the new HD with Slayer or evox boot disc? Similar to softmodding a box? Or do I need to repair the mod cip install. Any other ideas why my box freezes?

Thanks in advance

Reseating the chip is the first troubleshooting advice you should follow. Take the chip off, then loosen the screw holding the solderless adapter in place. Fold a small scrap of paper over and over again to make a lump of paper to slide under the solderless adapter, on the side WITHOUT the springy pins (farthest away from the front of your XBOX). then tighten the screw, making sure to line the spring pins up well. Then reseat the chip.

Once you get your chip reseated, try using your Xenium chip to lock your original hard drive (Under "Disk Tools".).

Then flash the original retail kernel onto your chip using the "Add Item" option on your Launch Menu. Flash it from the tsop.

Then boot the retail kernel without a disk in. Then set the clock.

That should resolve the error.

Then power off. Install the new hard drive. Lock the new drive.
