Time To Retire The Sammy

Rip games with the BenQ with the current 0800 FW no need to wait for LT+3.0 and use the sammy in the jtag.

I have been out of touch with the scene for a while and am having a bit of trouble understanding what I should do about my now abandoned Samsung drive.

I have two jtags. A Xenon with a Benq drive and a Jasper without a DVD drive (I have its liteon with me, but because of case mods, its not easy to open the case to connect it up again).

I have been using my Samsung MS25 with 0800 firmware for ripping my games and ftping them to the jtags as GOD. Now that I will not be able to continue doing this, I need to do the next best thing.

My confusion is really with which firmware I need on the benq. I will never need to burn any discs. Games are run off the hard drives in both cases and of course Live isn't a concern either.
Should I wait for the LT v3.0 firmware for the Benq or would stock or LT v2.0 firmware be fine?
It has v1.6 on it at the moment but of course GoW3 won't play nice with it.

Alternatively, should I be thinking about flashing the Samsung back to stock and use that instead of the benq? (even though it sounds like more work).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You seem to know the implications? It is best to stick with the benq since c4e only makes ripping drives compatible with benq and liteon fat. I'll wait for lt3  for the benq. The Samsung doesn't check ap2.5 so is wait for lt+3 doesn't really matter. But if your crossspofing you can get flagged on live.

Pay no attention to what this guy said lol..

Do what the first reply said. Use the new 0800 for the BenQ and use it for your ripping drive, then throw LT 2.01 on your Sammy and use it in your Jtag console. As long as you have dashlaunch installed everything will be smooth sailing.

To run the benq with 0800 firmware, wouldn't I require investing in additional hardware?
I made my own DVD power/eject to molex adaptor for my Samsung but AFAIK, it doesn't work with the Benq.

If I can't do it without investing more time and money at this moment, then I'd like to at least be able to install a game to the hdd (with the benq) and then use NXE2GOD to push it to the other jtag which has no dvd drive.

Thanks again.

Yes, if you homemade adapter doesn't work then you would need to get a connectivity kit to power/eject your drive. IMO its worth having one, as they are useful for so many things.

Your adapter should work fine with the BenQ, power and eject funtions are the same for all 360 drives.

That would be perfect. I then wouldn't have to ditch the Sammy.

Now I have to ask, what needs to be done to use the Sammy in the jtag? Do I have to spoof it even though its going into a jtag? Or will I need to reflash the jtag with the embedded Sammy key?

Well its confirmed as scrimpus has said, my power adaptor works fine with the benq. No idea where I got the idea that it wouldn't. Thanks.

The benq is running well with 0800 v3 firmware. Ripped GoW3 and uploaded it to my jasper (no dvd drive).

Things went from bad to worse with the other jtag and the sammy though.
I decided to put LT+ v2.01 on the drive instead of stock, just in case I wanted to use any burnt discs in future.
After flashing it I realised it was in fact 2.0 and not 2.01. Went to reflash it but it won't go into vendor mode.
Neither iprep or jungle flasher will touch it now.

This means I can't spoof the drive. So I decided to edit the keyvault to marry its key to the jtag (which would solve any current/future problems with AP2.5 titles).
This resulted in my console not booting anything other than Xell. No problem I thought. Flash back an older nand with the old kv, clear smc and start again. WRONG!

I've got my lpt cable out again and am rebuilding a windows xp machine (with a parallel port) so that I can start from scratch. This is what happens when you are out of the game for too long and then try and pickup where you left off.

Thanks for the help in getting me this far. My favourite jtag is doing what I need it to, so I can put the other one off indefinitely if I get sick of the sight of it.

If you can boot xell all you need to do is build a new freeboot image and flash it via USB.  Are you following the newest jf tut for flashing your Sammy? A Sammy with LT on it should go into vendor very easily with the Sammy unlock button. Try it with the tray half open also if needed.

Well it appears flashing through Xell/Xellous can only take you so far.
A flash with Nandpro (via LPT) got me back up and running again. I don't know what the difference is but I wonder if smc wasn't being rewritten even though I was pulling the power and doing everything I should.

Running jungleflasher on a different pc allowed me to put the Sammy into vendor mode. I flashed it back to stock but embedded the benq's drive key into it. Spoofing it to appear as the benq would have had its own set of problems.
I didn't want to mess around with the kv as that is what got me into trouble in the first place but that would have been the best solution. Maybe when I'm feeling brave again...

Thanks again for the help/advice.
