This has got me stumped,i've tried and tried to dump the key from a Lite-On 7 series drive but every single attempt just gives me "PhatKey Failed" error.Using my trusty CK3 lite kit with the CK3 Probe 3 to carry out the dumping. My CK3 kit is working perfect as i can dump the keys off other Lite-On drives as well as BenQ,Hitachi and Samsung drives no problem what so ever but this drive is giving me massive headaches.
I'm using Windows 7 x32 bit on an Asrock motherboard and using the very latest JungleFlasher ( also tried using earlier versions of JF ) but still the same error each and every time i go to dump this drives key :(
Any help on this would be awsome indeed, otherwise i'm gonna end up smashing this drive to bits lol
Thanks guys :)

Can ya just give a quick list of the steps you are taking to try and get the key?

Also, have you got a JF log to post and what SATA chipset is being used?

The steps i'm taking are the exact ones in the JF TUT (latest version V1.88),got the drive connected to my CK3 Lite kit to power it,drive is powered up,green light is on,on the probe.Clicking on "PhatKey" on JF,when message pops up,i click "yes",pressing in the CK3 probe button so the probes light goes OFF,placing the probe point on correct point on the drives board, releasing the probe button, lift off the probe from the board, then hold in and release the probe button.
My SATA chipset is the Nvidia Nforce 3 250 (never had any problems using this chipset on any other drives).I've also got a VIA SATA card and have tried that but still the same error even using the VIA card.
Here's the JF run log for you :-

lift off the probe from the board, then hold in and release the probe button.

You should hold the button to turn the probe off before you lift the probe.

When you click yes after pressing PhatKey and JF sits there sending the Vendor intro, and you probe MPX01, do you remove the probe straight away or wait for JF to say failed or extraction complete?

When I do a Phat Lite-on, I always re-cycle the power on the drive while it is in the process of sending the Vendor intro, then I do the probe straight away, it can't hurt and may help your situation.

Other than that, 99% of the Liteon problems are caused by SATA chipsets and drivers.

I cannot speak for the nForce chipset you have but I have done it on the VIA 6421 no problems.  Triple check that the VIA drivers are uninstalled, as per the JF guide, make sure windows isn't reinstalling them.  Make sure the Master port on the VIA card is being used.  Also, try replacing the SATA cable.

You say you can do other Lite-on drives OK, is that Slim or Phat and do you have a spare one to hand?  Also, was the last time you did one months ago or recently?  Asking that as its reasonable to assume that Windows update may have done something to the driver setup on your computer.

when probing the MPX01 point as soon as the Serial flash found with Status 0x52 appears in the run log,i lift off the point then i press the CK3 probe 3 button in and then release it.I've got x2 VIA 6421 PCI SATA cards and both of them work perfectly,i did my own phat Lite-On drive the other day and the key was extracted no problems what so ever from it.It's just this particular phat Lite-On drive that's causing me problems

Try this... Leave the probe on the MPX01 point for longer, at least 3 seconds after the serial flash with status 0x52 is found, a box should pop up saying extract complete.  Only then remove the probe.

EDIT:  oops sorry for double post of info iateshaggy, was typing this as you posted.

Have you got a spare liteon drive there you can try your probe on, i keep a spare here and a samsung just in case. I once had exactly the same issue as you it all turned out to be a timing issue. I will have a go on my spare liteon (2MOR)for you to see if i can replicate the error you are getting.

As promissed i pretty certain what you are doing wrong. Dont power off the CK3 at any time during the key reading and follow the below.

After hitting the Phatkey button/message To resend the command Click Yes then hold the probe button in and probe MPX01 let go of the button/ After extraction complete message press the probe button in remove the probe then let go of the button and it shoud now give you the files. Hope this helps. Doug

I connected up my OWN Lite-On 7 series drive and the key dumps perfect using my CK3 Lite kit and Probe 3 and homemade PMT probe with switch.I recken it's got to be this probmatic 7 series drive is just an un-dumpable for it's key as i have read a few previous posts on this forum about some phat Lite-On drives just refuse to dump the key off them, recken i'll just keep it for it's laser and motors as spare.
