Reading And Writing Slim 0225
« on: October 30, 2011, 11:57:00 AM »

I have dont a few liteOn phats in the past.  For this reason i have a VIA6421 card running in an old XP machine.  Now i have been asked to read a key out of a slim DG-16D4S 0225 drive.  This is coming out of a slim machine that is pre dash 13599.  Its in the 1200s ( i dont have the specific number off hand).

I'm looking to see what my options are to read the key and possibly flash it.  I guess the VIA i have isnt compatible or reliable with the slim drives?

I have another PC which appears to have a ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO controller according to the computer management in windows 7.  I was wondering if this chipset was an option?  Otherwise i guess i need a USB360 PRO.

Also, once I read this key, is it true that my only options then are a replacement PCB or some kind of sputnik hack to be able to write to this drive.  I think for the cost of a replacement pcb it might be worth the extra cash for the Xk3y if that thing will ever ship.

If anyone could shed some light on the questions that would be helpful.  While i understand x360 PRO would be the easiest way to retrieve the key, i would like to try alternatives to finish the job quicker.

Try some cheap ide2sata (JMicron JM20330) converters and use your pata port in via.
