i don't know if all the newer DRW-24B1ST's are gauranteed B chipsets, i just picked this one up from my local canadacomputers.com dated August 2011.......unless you guys meant newer than the past 3 months? or does the 'a' after the part number NOT mean chipset a?

That's a B. The A on the drive label is actually insignificant but got me at first too. I know because I have that exact same drive at home and picked it up from the same supplier. smile.gif

oh yeah? i had a feeling, that's why i still bought it. thanks man!

so, just to clarify for anyone else looking, where the hell is this hidden 'b' that i'm missing? because on the top label, it says "model number: drw-24b1st a" and nothing else? but then on the bottom label, it says drw-24b1st a/BLK/B/AS

is it that 'b' ?

It's because it uses an ASUS model naming convention and not the Liteon one, it's the same drive though.

Just my though on the "hidden B" its possible that the B is for the factory where the drive is actually made.

Thanks for copying my post into this and correcting the Yamaha stuff. I guess we need more than just the same chip on the board! It's quite tricky to find them, looking for MT1839LN turns up loads of LiteOn hits, excluding Liteon and Lite-On finds some but will then miss out any posts that identify drives as LiteOn clones!

By the way, there was a typo in my Plextor one, it's a PX-L not a PL-L. Some good pics inside one here, why can't other online stores give this much detail?  biggrin.gif

after 2 days, i finally successfully crossflash my plextor px-l890sa. at first i kept getting write error and wouldnt write to the drive at all. i then found a 24x B Series recover flasher (ATAPI.iHAS124_B.AL0L.stock.ppf) and it flashed it to a ihas124. from there i wasnt getting any errors anymore with flashing it to the fw i wanted. so i flashed it with ihas424 and used eeprom utility after and clicked on covert drive and powered off/on after its done.

now i have a working plextor px-l890sa crossflash to liteon ihas424b. hopefully everything will be ok once c4e fw comes out

If you now crossflash to IHAS624B you'll enable LabelTag as well (burn logos and stuff on the data side of the disc if you have the space). If you're gonna crossflash, may as well crossflash it to the max  biggrin.gif

It's on page one of this topic. You've already found it. Hence Spark's earlier response.

And where can I download the c4eva firmwares?

Nowhere.  They haven't been released yet.  Once they're released there will be two announcements on the front page of Xbox-Scene. One will be for the new firmware, the other will be for a new JungleFlasher to go with it.

If that documentation which surfaced yesterday is correct then it is actually flashed through the normal MyCE tools for Liteon which we have already been using to crossflash these drives etc. Makes a bit more sense that way though if you ask me, I was never really sure why Jungleflasher would be required for this sort of task.

The only difference I've noticed is the first stage which seems to prep the drive for the iXtreme flash and requires an additional reboot, not sure  what that's about to be honest.
