Thanks for copying my post into this and correcting the Yamaha stuff. I guess we need more than just the same chip on the board! It's quite tricky to find them, looking for MT1839LN turns up loads of LiteOn hits, excluding Liteon and Lite-On finds some but will then miss out any posts that identify drives as LiteOn clones!

By the way, there was a typo in my Plextor one, it's a PX-L not a PL-L. Some good pics inside one here, why can't other online stores give this much detail? biggrin.gif

Yes there may well be more of these clone drives, maybe more people will come forward with info.

I'll ask steveo to fix the Plextor model name thanks.

I have the "ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS" revision. Manufactured in April 2010.

From what I've read on another forum, I need to have the "....A/BLK/B/AS" version for this to work.

So I'm out of luck with version right?

More than likely, easiest way to tell seems to be stock firmware 1.03 = A 1.04 = B

iv got an hp 557s mfd in apr 10.will that work????????????

no...

QUOTE(Exobex @ Oct 25 2011, 10:03 AM) *
I'm not sure how critical it is, but I always select the "update bootcode" option when crossflashing, I think it's mentioned on MyCE.
Also, I do the EEPROM convert after the crossflash but BEFORE power-cycling the drive.

Yes your right, the drive will still identify as the original model in some programs if the bootcode isn't updated, although this shouldn't effect performance

and yes power cycling doesn't seem to make a difference before EEPROM convert smile.gif

HP DVD Writer 1260r (ImgBurn showing 1260r MH22  and Nero  CD-DVD speed  showing 1260r VMH22) not supported. I tried EEPROM_Utility_6.2.0 to  backup my eeprom and getting "Error reading EEPROM from drive!"

Interesting, Edit: Sounds like you may have a Y series NEC drive, see if BinFlash will recognize the drive

some days ago i too was looking for crossflasheble drives and found this list
http://ixtreme.se/ix...burner_max.html

Plextor PX-880SA = A chipset (see HERE)
Teac W524GS = A chipset (see below)
Sony Optiarc AD-724xS/AD-726xS= Y chipset

and the Pioneer/QSI models are unique, look at my earlier post for more info

There may be a B chipset version of the Teac W524GS in the wild, but I couldn't find any info confirming this,
the same goes for the Dell PLDS DH 16AAS (OEM drive) only found info on A chipset drive.

Uses MTK A chipset, but like the DVR-S19L it is based off a QSI drive (QSI DDW-241S clone in this case) which is a unique design and cannot be crossflashed

No..

A series (chipset) drives cannot be flashed to B drives, as they each have a unique chipset

I successfully crossflashed my Plextor PX-L890SA to iHAS624B GL27, then original stock GL29 from LiteOn site and then to iXtreme for iHAS624B. Everything's working fine. smile.gif

There's no Plextor PL-890SA but it's PX-L890SA. Please correct that on the list of supportrd drives.

EDIT:
@cross_stix: thanx for changing. smile.gif

Does crossflashing require flashing an official Liteon firmware to the drive first before flashing with a max firmware? I flashed from a ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS directly to a Liteon iHAS624 max firmware with any issues.

Yes. in iXtreme Burner Max Pack there's official Liteon firmware ver. GL29. Flash this, restart, and then flash iXtreme.
Everything is in tutorial attached in iXtreme.

PS.
WARNING FOR ALL PLEXTOR PX-L890SA USERS !!!
I flashed it with iHAS624B firmware without any problems. Then i tried to burn LabelTag on disk with my Crossflashed PX. DVD laser died after attempting burning label on data side of dvd. So BEWARE!

I think that is safer to crossflash Plextor to iHAS224B not 624B (as 224B has only lightscribe, just like Plextor). It looks like PX doesn't have hardware capabilities for LabelTag.

Taking backup using EEPROM_Utility_6.2.0 for HP DVD1260r did not work but when I try to create backup using binflash I get dump.bin (1729 KB). I tried 4 time and got same size file. So assuming it is a good backup. I guess next step is to flash.

In Binflash, I see flash button and when I click it is asking for some file. Shall I just choose "iHAS-624B-GL29-MKM001MKM003-final.bin" and processed?

It was recommended to take 2 dump (EEPROM and Firmware). But if I use binflash I do not see such options. How do I take EEPROM and Firmware backup using binflash? Or the dump that I got contains both?

It took iHAS124B but had to run crossflash in eeprom utility afterwards and it worked beautifully.
At first it wouldn't acknowledge any media was present.
BTW, came from an eMachines EL1852G-52W
