Thanks for copying my post into this and correcting the Yamaha stuff. I guess we need more than just the same chip on the board! It's quite tricky to find them, looking for MT1839LN turns up loads of LiteOn hits, excluding Liteon and Lite-On finds some but will then miss out any posts that identify drives as LiteOn clones!
By the way, there was a typo in my Plextor one, it's a PX-L not a PL-L. Some good pics inside one here, why can't other online stores give this much detail? biggrin.gif
Yes there may well be more of these clone drives, maybe more people will come forward with info.
I'll ask steveo to fix the Plextor model name thanks.

I have the "ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS" revision. Manufactured in April 2010.
From what I've read on another forum, I need to have the "....A/BLK/B/AS" version for this to work.
So I'm out of luck with version right?
More than likely, easiest way to tell seems to be stock firmware 1.03 = A 1.04 = B

I'm not sure how critical it is, but I always select the "update bootcode" option when crossflashing, I think it's mentioned on MyCE.
Also, I do the EEPROM convert after the crossflash but BEFORE power-cycling the drive.
Yes your right, the drive will still identify as the original model in some programs if the bootcode isn't updated, although this shouldn't effect performance
and yes power cycling doesn't seem to make a difference before EEPROM convert
