One thing that's different is on page 1. The following red text has been added: -
And to update a drive to a higher up model, you do this (done at your own risk - don't blame me if you mess it up!): -

1. Download Flash Utility and EEPROM Utility from the codeguy's page. Make a backup of your flash and EEPROM.

2. Go to the codeguy's page and download the latest firmware for the drive you want to flash to, i.e. if you have a drive that starts with an odd number, get the latest firmware for the 524B and if you have a drive that starts with an even number, get the latest firmware for the 624B. Run the firmware update and have it update your drive. You must use the updates from the codeguy's page to do this, cos the updates from sites like Firmware HQ won't work for this particular purpose.

3. Run EEPROM Utility and click on the CrossFlash tab and hit the "Convert Drive" button, then when it's done, reboot your PC. The PC will detect your "new" drive and it'll show as either a 524B or 624B (depending which you converted it to) in Device Manager.

Throughout this process you must make sure you select the correct drive in the drop down list in either Flash Utility or EEPROM Utility cos if you have multiple burners installed in your PC you could accidentally flash the wrong one.

Once the drive is converted to a 524B or 624B, you can update the firmware using the official firmware updates either via SmartPack or via the stand-alone firmware updates on Firmware HQ. Once you've done that, take another backup of your EEPROM and flash and you're ready to install the Burner Max firmware!

Thanks heaps to funksoulbrother for this step by step, got my 324 to a 524.

LabelTag isn't in Nero 9 Essentials either. You need version 8.

I have Nero 9 Essentials that I D/L from the Lite-On WS and it does infact have Label Tag in it.  I used it a few minutes ago to create a "music CD hand-out" for my kids B'Day.

I cross flashed the 324 I just received to a 524, and it doesn't seem to be working correctly.  I tried to burn something using Nero and it immediately failed the burn.  I then tried Imgburn and if you click on the device tab, it keeps resetting itself.  Also the green light on the front of the drive keeps flashing.

You need to use the EEPROM Utility to "Convert" the drive after crossflashing.  Right now your drive is still in the initializing state.  In the EEPROM Utility go to the CrossFlash Tab.  Then click on the Convert button.  That will enable the new LabelTag feature you crossflashed (added) to your 324 to make it a 524.

Cool. It seems that it was added in an update to the software, so if your drive comes with an older version of 9 on a disc it may not have it: -

Yeah, it is kind of annoying.  I have the full version of Nero9 and it does not have LabelTag either.  Has LightScribe, but no LT.  So I found the N9 Essentials DL quite useful in checking out the LT feature.  Good on you FSB for the N9E linky.

i have a old slim that can have the firmware flashed. it has a old dashboard on it. in jungleflasher it says to update the dashboard BEFORE i  flash it. if i update the dashboard, does it reflash the dvd drive to a locked state, or does it just do that if it detects a hacked firmware on the drive.

i already had a hacked slim and updated the dashboard and it got re-flashed to a stock locked firmware. the only way to flash it again is  if i e a new pcb. i dont want to do this again.

thanks for any help

Your only options are the Xkey/Wasabi or a new TX pcb.

If you still have your dvd key, you can update the dash and just reflash the newer firmware over.

so basically i just get my dvd key first, then update the dashboard, then reflash with the newest lt firmware. but if it is locked, how do i flash it.

if it's the old firmware you should be fine to put it into vendor mode and extract the key.  Once you've got the key and backup of your firmware the hard part is over.  The problem with the new 0225 firmware is that it's a lot harder to extract your key... but re-flashing (doing liteon erase, then write) is still fine -- just make sure you've got that backup before you go online.

if the board is unlocked I would first off GET THE DRIVE KEY!!! without it you can do nothing.... its the holy grail.... if you can kamikaze the chip then you can always unlock it again even if its locked by MS...... Ive done about 10 slims already and each one I did the same:

Used my lizard to get the key
kamikaze the chip to unlock it
flashed the chip with the New OFW (official Firmware) this way when the dash is updated the update will already see the New OFW and it will skip the flashing and just update the dash. THEN flash the drive with LT+ 2.0. Works a charm each and every time. But I again stress without the key you can do nothing.
Im not sure if you can still retrieve the key after the drive has been flashed by the dash but Im not gonna try.
And ALWAYS LOCK the chip again after you flash (either hard or soft lock) because MS can always check to see if its locked and POSSIBLY ban if it finds it unlocked.... so lock it after you flash it.

HOW TO CROSS-FLASH your IHASx24-xx:

3 FILES NEEDED:

1. Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (Version 6.0.1 as of the time of this tutorial, just use latest version)
2. EEPROM Utility for LiteOn/Sony/BenQ Drives (Version 6.2.0 as of this time, just get the latest version)
3. firmware.exe  (the firmware of your choice that you wish to flash/crossflash)

all files can be found here: http://codeguys.rpc1.../utilities.html

CROSSFLASHING

1. Launch the latest EEPROM utility and backup the EEPROM.
2. Launch the latest Firmware utility and backup the Firmware.

Steps 1 & 2 are to make sure you have a copy of your original incase you wish to send back for warranty

3. Flash the drive using the Firmware utility by using the  <firmware>.exe you wish to flash. LEAVE ALL SETTINGS AT DEFAULT, DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING, just load firware and flash the drive (that simple) Wait for flashing to be SUCCESSFUL
4. Now shut down your computer, unplug the power cable to your PC, COUNT TO 15 SECONDS, plug in power to PC and start back up your PC. This procedure is call power cycling the drive. (The Green activity LED on drive will flash constantly)
5. Run the EEPROM Utility and choose the Convert option. This finish the cross flashing process.
6. After you are done converting, you must power cycle the drive again by shutting down PC and unplugging for 15 secs.
7. Turn back on PC, The drive will now be recognized as an iHASx24-xx model (the firmware u chose) and the process is now complete.

(NOTE to those having problems crossflashig: some people say to disable AHCI Mode and enable IDE Mode in the BIOS to crossflash, not necessary but reccomended)

EXTRA DRIVE AND CROSSFLASHING RELATED INFO:

Possible (50/50 chance, its a hit or miss with the drives below weather or not it will be a B drive ) Rebadged lite-on ihasx244-B drives below, just make sure they are using the (MT1839LN Chipset)
Sony Optiarc AD-724xS
Plextor PX-880SA
Asus DRW-24B1ST
Asus DRW-24B1LT
TEAC W524GS

ihasx24-As (MT1879LE Chipset) can ONLY be crossflashed with frimware meant for ihas124-a's ( MT1879LE Chipset)
ihasx24-Bs (MT1839LN Chipset) can ONLY be crossflashed with frimware meant for ihas124-B's ( MT1839LN Chipset)
DO NOT CROSSFLASH A's with B's or B's with A's
It is OK to crossflash any ihasx24-A with any other ihasx24-A firmware
It is OK to crossflash any ihasx24-B with any other ihasx24-B firmware

When it comes to the B series, they all use the same Mediatek chipset, but they are not all hardware identical. There are in fact two hardware streams available:

iHAS124, iHAS324 & iHAS524 are all EXACT identical in hardware, it is the firmware which enables/disables various features that is different. These drives do not have a LightScribe sensor module, so although you can crossflash them to any other B model from the second group, the LightScribe feature will still not work due to the missing module.

iHAS224, iHAS424 & iHAS624 are all EXACT identical in hardware, and again it is the firmware which enables/disables various features which is different. These drives all have the LightScribe hardware included, and they are all LightScribe enabled.

The LabelTag/LabelFlash feature on the other hand does not require any additional hardware so any B drive can be flashed to an iHAS524 or iHAS624 and the result will be a LabelTag enabled drive. Same goes for the Smart Erase feature ... any iHAS324 B, iHAS424 B, iHAS524 B or iHAS624 B firmware is Smart Erase enabled.

The various features can be summarized as it follows:

iHAS124 B: -- -- --
iHAS224 B: LS -- --
iHAS324 B: -- -- SE
iHAS424 B: LS -- SE
iHAS524 B: -- LT SE
iHAS624 B: LS LT SE

where: LS=LightScribe, LT=LabelTag, SE=SmartErase

in short it would be ideal/logical to turn any iHAS124B or iHAS324B into a iHAS524B (however it can be flashed to any ihasx24B u want)

This thread's just going in circles.

I hope there's not a problem with the firmware.

Maybe it's still failing the integrity checks.  sad.gif

Yeah, I did that, the problem with burning was that I didnt shutdown my system.  I can burn dvd's without any issues, but I can't seem to get the Labeltag to work, it keeps failing.

The burning firmware?

There's nothing wrong with it, Xecuter even released the install documentation already and I'll be surprised if you don't see the firmware at some point tonight/tomorrow tbh.
