Ordered a couple of the IHAS624's from Ebuyer last night, unfortunately they have now sold out.  Plenty of the cheaper models but no mention of the chipset http://www.ebuyer.co...p;filtermfr=177

There was 4 in stock this morning when I ordered mine. I guess word travels fast!

Just noticed that.  They're out of stock of all four compatible models in their list.

eBuyer have the IHAS124-19, over 200 in stock at the moment.  Also of interest is this eBay listing. It's been sold, but it shows the label of an IHAS124-19 and this one's a "B" model, so things look promising.  I know a few people who will be interested so I've ordered a couple from eBuyer for next day delivery. At least they show their stock level before you try to check out!

http://www.ebuyer.co...-oem-ihas124-19

Note to those who think the pictures are wrong: the label is on the underside of the drive (hence the screws in the corners).

Also worthy of note (if it's needed, perhaps they'll be enabled anyway) is that these drives can be crossflashed, the only feature that can't be enabled if it's not already there is LabelFlash. This means that you can turn a 124 into a 324 or 524, or make a 224 into a 424 or 624.
More info here.

APPARENTLY THE ASUS DRW-24B3LT CAN BE CROSSFLASHED TO AN IHAS-624B

See here for more info and tools.

There is no apparently about this, I cross flashed one of them yesterday to an iHAS324. The drive is identical in every way apart from the branding on the bezel. The internals are all Liteon.

ok i have this situation:

i'm on a laptop and use x360 usb pro to connect my 360 drive's and flash them.
do u guys think it's possible to connect a lite-on burner to the x360 usb pro (so windows will recognize it) and use it to burn xgd3 backups?

Thanks for confirming that :-)
Looks like you can take it all the way up to a 624 and get yourself the LightScribe and LabelTag features as well!

Here are some other drives which should be compatible.  Click them to find the page I got the info from and judge for yourselves. Many of these drives have LabelFlash/LightScribe technology so can be crossflashed all the way up to IHAS624. Those without can be crossflashed all the way up to IHAS524 (you can probably use IHAS624 but they still won't have LabelFlash/LightScribe as the hardware's missing).

ASUS
DRW-24B3LT
DRW-24B3ST

HEWLETT PACKARD (HP)
DVD 1270i B

PIONEER (a BK suffix I think indicates that it has a black bezel, so variations of these probably all work)
DVR-219CHV
DVR-219LBK
DVR-219VXL
DVR-S19FX
DVR-S19L

PLEXTOR
PL-L890SA

QSI
DDW-242S

See here for the crossflash software links.  I did read on one of the links that your SATA controller needs to be in IDE mode to perform the flash, not AHCI, just to let you know!

What tool&firmware did you use for the cross flashing?

ASUS DRW-24B3ST can also be flashed into IHAS324. Right? This is a very common drive and I can find it cheap locally.

DRW-24B3ST --> iHAS 124/324 B
DRW-24B3LT --> iHAS 224/424 B

ok, I am operating with one online console and one offline - I do not care if my offline console gets banned or flagged - will I possibly have issues in the future if I continue to burn my xgd3 backups using the truncate method? i.e. the extra 200Mb could be used at some point and I would be knackered?

cheers gents  biggrin.gif

Already seems to be getting used in Forza, hence the read errors people are seeing.

Probably worth getting a liteon at some point once they are easily available and identifiable.

Id get a drive, they are only $20 anyways, not a huge cost loss.  Better to have it now, then later down the road when some discs might need it.

Over 150 gone from eBuyer since I ordered mine this morning. Only 60 left!
I'll never touch Scan with a bargepole after they sold me a secondhand, faulty hard drive that they'd just sealed back up in the bag and shipped back out as being new. Part of the original covering letter had transferred to the SCIL label so the original fault was plain to see. That was after spending almost three grand with them, too!

External USB2 DVD drive case and put the burner in that.

I believe you can put a drive in an external usb caddy.

You could flash it to a 624 if you want but you definitely won't get Lightscribe on it because that requires additional hardware which the drive just doesn't have.

Will this work?  What do the last 2 digits of the model number mean? (iHAS124-04)

You have 2 options

1) Get an external casing for 5.25" drives and make sure its SATA and not IDE

2) Get an external kit, SATA to USB cable and external molex power supply and just power the drive with not case and hook the USB to your laptop.

OK, for the guys asking about the Asus drive, I have created a crossflashing pack for you because I noticed when I did mine last night that the information and tools were conflicting across multiple sites and someone with less experience than me could easily brick the drive.

Pack is Here

This was tested on the DRW-24B1ST but I see no reason why it shouldn't work with the other MTK B-chipset models as well and contains the stock AL18 iHAS324 firmware. If you want to the take the drive to another model like the 424, 524 or 624 then this is also possible and will just need the correct exe flash file for that drive.

Process is:

1. Launch EEPROM utility and backup EEPROM.
2. Launch Firmware utility and backup Firmware.

With the above steps, these dumps will be needed if you ever need to return the drive to stock for warrantee repair etc so it's a good idea to make 2 dumps just to be sure.

3. Flash the drive using the Firmware utility by selecting the included exe file (or another one of your choice). All settings should be left as default.
4. After the Flashing utility confirms that the flash is successful, power cycle the drive. The Green activity LED on it will now flash constantly but the eject button etc should respond as normal.
5. Run the EEPROM utility and launch the Convert option. This will finalise the crossflash process.
6. Once this has completed successfully, power cycle the drive again.
7. The drive will now be recognised as an iHASx24 B model and the process is now complete.

I flashed my drive using a laptop and the X360USBPro and this worked perfectly. I then tested it after the flash by burning an XGD2 title, again through the X360USBpro, and which also worked flawlessly although the firmware forced 4x on Memorex media for some reason.

My drive was manufactured in July 2011 but I have seen elsewhere that drives going as far back as June 2010 still use the MTK B version chipset so there should be plenty of these around.
