I bought the 124 from Newegg. Used the Shoprunner trial to get free shipping. So it's $18.99 delivered. Hopefully it will be a "B" since I'm sure they sell plenty of those drives.

I was up late last night after word came out. At about 2:35am EST the 324 was the only one specifically labelled as a B on newegg.com. It sold out really quickly.

Watch your order closely if you use tigerdirect. I ordered the OEM LiteOn drive last night and this morning I checked the order and they changed the drive to the sony Optiarc. I had to call and cancel and re-order the LiteOn and tell them specifically it had to be that drive.

I've been watching the order closely to see if they change it again.

Should be fine, it's the right model and ebuyer have high turnover so I can't see it being an older version.

The bastards did exactly the same to me and I warned people about this on here late last week. I actually have the optiarc sat on my desk right now and I need to call them to get a label so I can send it back.

The irritating thing is that when I called them they said that they didn't have any 124's in stock and discontinued that line ages ago yet their websites still suggest otherwise.

I hate tigerdirect but I saw they had tons so I ordered it. The 124 is the one I ordered too and now for a 2nd time, we'll see what happens this time.

I'm owning a Plextor 890SA drive and read, that this drive also should be able to be crossflashed into a IHAS524 (or 624???).

I'll try to crossflash the stock firmware of the IHAS524 B with THIS Util using the unscrambled firmware from HERE (scroll page down).

As I'm an absolutely amateur in crossflashing drives I'm concerned that i'll flash my Plextor to Death.

So, should my described way above work?

Thx in advance for any hints!

Best regards

I had never used them before and thought I would give them a chance, never again though. It will be interesting to see if they do send you a 124 though since last week they told me that they haven't had any of those in stock for ages and it wouldn't be so terrible if the Optiarc wasn't a technically inferior model anyway.

If the LO flashing utility detects it then you should be good to go.

I can confirm Pioneer DVR-219LBK DOES NOT work.  It has a Mediatek MT1839LN chipset and is not recognized by EEPROM_Utility or Flash_Utility.  I went ahead and ordered an ASUS DRW-24B1ST for $20.37 shipped from Newegg (using free shipping promo).

Cool, got a iHAS324B. I had to use my VIA card because all my SATA ports on the motherboard are being used.

I went to update the drive as per the guide, but Lite On's firmware page has a SQL error.

I am under the impression that the custom f/w hasn't been released yet and the details in the tutorial are for when it does get released; the only f/w i can get for mine was the returning it back to stock i have the iHAS124B
