Order one and buy an external 3.5" caddy off the ebay to put it in.

Just helping out any Aussies out there looking to get a drive. I took a punt and bought mine form >> HERE <<

It is a B model.

It appears to be a B drive so go for it!

Also, does anyone know if there are any programs i can run to check the chipset of the drive? Or a method to find out what's inside?

Cheers.

the simple fact that you have a firmware ALXX on a iHAS324 means that you have the right chipset (LN vercion chipset)

Looking online I found AL0S was the newest firmware. My drive came with AL0R. Tried it with both firmwares.

Could be a bad batch of TDKs.

Could very well be.  Most likely Ritek discs and not exactly known for their consistency.  I burned and scanned one last night, scored a 90 on Nero CD-DVD Speed, other than a spike at the layer break it was very solid, only a small handful of PIFs that hit 3.

Just to be sure, the actually Burner Max FW hasn't released yet correct? Or has it? I read a tutorial on how to do it, so I was confused since I hadn't seen any news that it was released...

If it did use the same firmware do you think it would be only released for this particular chipset of drives?
