So I went to the market today and got myself 2 basic 324B LiteOns.... replacing my 2 old 324Y LiteOns. I did not find the ones with the better features....so I am wondering, if the hardware is similar to the 424-624? And if it s only a matter of FW flashing....anyone?!!!!

you were 100% correct. Not 99.9999999%, 100%.....!

I guess once flashed with the new firmware it wont burn other formats just like the old Kreon firmware did.

This drive should also work.
It's a clone of the iHas *24 and can be crossflashed with any of the series firmware.
Gonna buy one later today, will report the results.

Drive flashing is pretty normal and most manufacturers have firmware updates available on their sites. The process is usually an app that you run from within windows and it does the work for you. No need to do anything other than click a few buttons. The drives are not locked (At least not typically) because there is no reason to lock them. I imagine this process will be the same with C4E's firmware, there will probably be a standalone app and it might get integrated into jungle flasher. Doesnt matter really, should be extremely easy either way.

As far as -04 being Y drives. I think that basically any drive ordered within the last year (October 2010+) has a very high chance of being a B, as Y's and A's are not made anymore. So it explains why some people have -04's with Y model, because they are old, and pre-date B's.

So I wouldnt pay too much attention to people saying they have Y drives of the model numbers that are said to most likely be B's if you are buying a new drive now. If you have an old drive then it could be A or Y.

Thanks for all the info, guys. Happy flashin'.

No hardware itself is different so you won't be able to add features because the components do not exist in the drive

Actually all of the features are firmware based apart from LS.

was bloody confused myself there for a while on #fw.all those a's,b's and y's for fecks sake.its going haywire there at the minute.

definitely seems now from what i am seeing on #fw that the ihas624 -32 is the b revision (the one to get).there was an a revision but it was never released.

Thanks for this info! Now I can feel safe with my purchase (hasn't arrived yet) In the store I puchased it from in sweden there was like 2£ difference between 224-624 so why not get the fully loaded one smile.gif of course the 124 was a bit cheaper.

I swore I would never buy another Lite-On burner ever again because of their burn quality but yet here I am.  rolleyes.gif

I picked one(124) up today from Micro Center. I tested the drive using some TDK dual layer I had which I knew already were iffy. These disc will burn and verify using my Pioneer and a NEC I have ok. The quality scans are not good so I don't even use the disc for games.
The Lite-On burns them but wont even read back past the layer break. I hope it works better with Verbatim. So far it looks like the same Lite-Ons I grew to hate.

Make sure you're using somewhat up-to-date firmware.  I know my Lite-on burns my TDK DLs just fine, scans nicely, but it didn't until I updated the firmware.  I've had pretty good luck with the AL0H firmware, although AL0L is newest.

For the record, I bought my Lite-on iHAS124-B last year in November, was lucky enough to get a B.  =D
