I know you need the dae.bin but I thought that was for id/verification purposes. If it's not ripping all the AP2.5 data (both checked for & not checked for yet), then how can it be a full iso rip?

The dae.bin file contains the current AP2.5 checks. When the game is ripped, it rips the AP2.5 data based on the current checks which is then stored in the ISO somewhere. When the checks change (i.e. when the DAE table is updated via a dashboard update), the AP2.5 data stored in your ISO is no longer relevant and needs to be updated, hence the patching/re-ripping. It doesn't store "not checked for yet" AP2.5 data, cos from what I've read there are just too many combinations to store them all.

I guess my IDE Pioneer 118L is out of the question.  It's what I've been using for years.

Thanks for the more detailed explanation. It just seems to me that if it can be stored on the original, then the full AP data should be able to be stored on the back-up as well. I guess I need to read up on AP security layout more.

I don't know exactly how it works, but looking at the challenge/response data in abgx360, there are 13 AP2.5 challenges. They're based on angles, which range from 0-359 degrees, so that gives you 1,705,817,281,795,782,082,560,000,000,000,000 possible combinations.

Im grateful but I hate the overated Verbatim DL's. I've been using Memorex/Aone DL's for 3 years no problems. I hope Memorex/Aone DL's be compatible soon.  dry.gif

I find Memorex and Windata and all other media to be garbage.  They get some light scratches and they don't work.  Verbatim is by far a more superior disc and will even play when scratched to a certain extent.  I also find it common to see that people who use memorex and cheap media discs often end up having dead lasers.  Also Verbatims will work on every drive type made, some drive types are more picky about certain discs and only will play verbatims.

The rule of life that states "You get what you pay for" is in fact true in this case.

Aones are crap.
The first layer is actually pretty good, but the second is terrible.

You clearly missed the part where I said I do media scans.

Go read cdfreaks (now myce) and come back.

Yes, a lot of drives are rebranded liteons. But facts are, the optiarcs are good with PROOF of scans from media and lite ons are not (unless they made leaps and bounds in the last 2 years - which is how long its been since I stopped doing scans/buying drives), not your assumption on a forum.

Edit:

I should point out, my opinion of "crap" is the difference between mid 80s - low 90's scan quality results (which, in the grand scheme of things are still pretty good) vs high 90's (97-99) results lower jitter, etc.
