If it did use the same firmware do you think it would be only released for this particular chipset of drives?

he prob only tested sata, as thats what their computers use, not many still have IDE. the ihap422 is the same as the ihas424. as long as it has the mtk chipset, shouldnt it work? I did some research, only dound 1 topic on cdfreaks/clubmyce, and they basically said its likely a mtk. but I cant find a sure answer. and all I see here are smartasses.

seriously why is sata necessary? its the exact same thing, just IDE. its the lightscribe n smart erase model ihap422-9. it uses the same FWs n everythign right?

It doesn't use the same firmware.

iHAP422-9 = WL1N (last updated, 6th July 2010)
iHAS424-B = GL1A (last updated, 7th July 2011)

Because ide is older, slower technology. As the companies manufacture products, they wont to keep the current and future customers in mind.
An ide drive will sit on a shelf for ages.

He didn't just only test it for sata, but only B versions of the drive which uses a different chipset as the A version.  Just because the manufacture is MTK doesn't mean the chipset is the same all across....  But doesn't mean he won't write something for the A version.

Unfortunately, they really are not the same thing.  They move data in completely different manners with different sets of circuitry, etc.  The IDE FW instruction sets will be completely different from the SATA ones.

It is like saying a Diesel Submarine is the same as a Nuclear Submarine...  smile.gif   Yes they are both submarines and they do the exact same thing, but they go about it in totally different manners with different equipment.  Not trying to be a Smart A$$, just trying to give analogies....

I got to ask:
we all know that only verbatims (the two models at least) are cmpatible and successfully burn!

If I wold take (say) RITEK-S04-66 (which i usually used until now without any problems) and burn an XGD3 game iso with burner max and imgburn (like described in the tutorial):
If these dvds aren't compatible, it won't burn successfully and give me an error, right?

My reason (what i like to avoid) is that I don't want t burn an ISO and IMGburn says everything is allright, but in reality it isn't all right and than i insert the disc => ban!
So therefore i'm asking if it gives an error if it doesn't burn correctly?

If the disc burns and verifies OK, it should be fine. Here's what c4eva said: -

[2011-10-16 10:00AM UTC] #c4e <c4eva> burner max fw doesnt force you to use verbatim media for xgd3 but they are the only ones that verify error free so far

So he said that Verbatims were the only ones that verified error free, which implies that if other discs burn and verify error free they'd be fine.

Hello I dawnloaded  iXtreme Burner Max Pack from xbins but I have couple of questions.

I have Liteon iHAS 124B drive. Can if flash it with burner max software for iHAS 424B ? so I get Lightscibe and smarterase?

I have MKM-003 disk this mean it only suport 4x speed write with OPC ? or can I use 2.4x without OPC?

In IMGburn  Layer break is to set the calculate optimal ? and select .iso file not .dvd file ?

No. The drives that start with odd numbers do not have the required hardware for LightScribe. You can add Smart Erase and LabelTag by cross-flashing the drive to a 524B though, then you would flash it with the Burner Max firmware that's meant for a 524B drive. I posted earlier in the thread how to do this, as did at least one other person, so have a read back through the posts.

4X requires you to enable OPC. 2.4X does not, although you can still use it if you like.

The layerbreak should be set to "calculate optimal" in ImgBurn, but you have to select the .DVD file for burning, not the .ISO. The .DVD file is just a text file that tells ImgBurn which ISO to burn and where to set the layerbreak. If you set the layerbreak manually in ImgBurn you would have to remember to change it if the last disc you burned was XGD2 and then you went to burn an XGD3 and vice versa as they use different layerbreaks, so just use the .DVD files as it's easier.
