This is definitely excellent news, but the future of XGD3 backups is still looking dim to me simply because of AP2.5. It wasn't so bad before XGD3 appeared as there were only 6 games that used it, but all XGD3 games use it and that's potentially a lot of repatching/reburning every time the DAE table is updated.

I don't mean that to be disrespectful to c4eva or anyone else working on this stuff, it's just an observation. If the new drive emulators that are just starting to come out can ever be Live safe, then that would be a far more convenient way to go than burning DVD+R DL discs.

Won't they run out of space in the NAND if they start filling it up with AP2.5 data? They only fit 1 title update on there now, but they've got to run out of space eventually.

C4E is xbox GOD and its seems nothing that MS can do to stop him. If you haven't donated to him or his team now is as good as time as any but I think now is better see what they have done so quickly over the last 6 months. Even just a little, say if you could spare $5 per person which is nothing really to you and me but times that by the amount of people that donate C4E and his team deserve it.

I don't know what it entails nor how much room it takes up, but as all 11 XGD3 games released so far have AP2.5 protection I'm assuming that it'll be the norm for XGD3 titles going forward.

I'm glad Verbatims take the prize. I've wasted $100s on various brands that work fine on some consoles, but terribly on other consoles. Ever since I went 100% Verbatim, I've had zero problems.

I presume the Pioneer 111D will be supported, being that it's the most popular burner in the scene and has been frequently recommended.

Sounds like Kreon: C4E Style

What's going to be Kreon all over again is the nature of how these particular drives are gonna go 'Out of Stock' on newegg in under 48 hours. As for it being liteon, remember; just cuz Philips Optical drives (LiteON, BenQ) handle AP25 has nothing to do with being able to burn AP25. Could likely be Samsung... hope it's Samsung. If it is my 22X burners are probably too old. If it's something new you can be everybody will be getting spares.

I kinda wondered if c4e was gonna go this way. I mean, look at a DVD+R DL's write surface with a magnifying glass and you can tell it's not utilizing its full writing surface even with LT MAX. Doctoring a write strategy has got to be easier than tooling a workaround in LT 2.0.

I bet Jungleflasher is going to handle the flashing of these drives smile.gif.

I dont think it will be the Pioneer 111D as they state sata interface and the 111D was IDE i think, i think you are correct in asuming it might be a pioneer as this as always been the burner of choice. One things for sure theres going to be a rush to purchase which ever one is known.

Pioneer 111D is old, not SATA, not 25$, not available to be bought.

When will it be announced what drive/s??? What is the procedure for flashing that drive?????
You might be interested that I have used the pioneer drive with both Verbs and Aones and never had a coaster with either BUT the Verb backups seem to die after a few months while the Aone backups last much longer

I highly doubt it'll be a Pioneer for a few reasons.
A. c4e said 'high availability' in that there will be 6 different versions of the same brand.
B. There's only one Pioneer branded SATA burner on Newegg.
C. I'd wager high that JungleFlasher WILL handle the firmware update and Pioneer would be new hardware for them to learn (assuming they make their own burners anymore).

This will likely be a manufacturer commadore4eva and Jungleflasher are familiar with. Couple that with everything else he's stated I'm betting LiteON. Makes sense. If Firmwares on their burners are anything like their XBOX DVD-ROMS you can't brick them to a point a novice couldn't fix it. Also that high availability comment... there are seven LiteON burners available on Newegg right now. Samsung only has four. Sony has five but I don't think they count.

Of course this is all assumption based on some logical deduction. Wait and see.  pop.gif  But like the rest of you I'll be watching for this announcement very closely.
