i would say that the disc's you are using are poor media ie cheap.had the same problem myself,i switched to verbs and never had a problem since.

I'm not sure the discs are at fault. I've tried updating my Liteon (83850c, though, not a 74850c) to lt+ 2.0 and I cannot get XGD3 games, like dark souls, working either.

The funny thing is, the game boots up in my old Samsung MS25, but not in the Liteon. So I decided to try spoofing my Samsung as a Liteon...and it kinda works. The Liteon just shows 'Play Game,' but the spoofed Samsung shows 'Play Dark Souls' with the image behind it. And I can install the game using the spoofed Samsung, but it still refuses to play it!

So I think there might be some sort of problem with the Liteon firmware regarding XGD3 backups. That, or me and the OP have both missed a vital step in flashing our drives...I don't think I have, because original copies and older backups are working fine, but it is possible. Any ideas?

I had ix1.8 on 83850C liteon.

I flashed to stock.
Updated the dash.
Checked that it played original GOW3 and it did.
Flashed to LT2.0
Checked that it plays backups and it does.

But now if I put in original GOW3 and I get E66 error!?  

Any ideas?

I'm using verbatism disc.

These are the procedure I took before flashing to Lt2.

1. Updated to the latest dashboard.
2. Loaded the original dammy.bin and flashed it to LTPlus-025-v2.0.
3. Burnt GOW3 and tried playing the game.

Are these steps correct?

I had the same problem earlier tonight. Flashed my drive to lt 2.0, burned GOW3 using RROD method, would say play game , click on it.........black screen........back to dashboard.........just had the same thing with Driver San Francisco......

I use verbatim also and never have had any problems. Might be a bad rip. I burned  Warhammer 40,000 and Dark Souls and they play fine.

do other games work? play disc usually shows up when the dvd drive has the wrong key

Same problem. Lite-on 74850 plays old back-ups but not XGD3 ones. Play game>black screen>back to dash.
Using singapore Verbs and both IMGburn & CloneCD.

Yap, other game are playing well. Even managed to play Fifa 12.

How do you verify if it a proper XGD3 rip?

were they backed up from original disc with xbc and c4e's v3 ripping firmware and with corect dae bin file to your dashboard ??

Hi Guys,

Managed to play GOW3. I had a bad rip. Got another download, went through the burning process and the game is now playing.
