you're obviously way too worried about this so if I were you I would just not even bother modding your xbox.
I've done plenty of my friend's boxes with lite-on drives (non-slim) and I returned all of them to stock fw via the files from the latest release pack and the dummy file created from the initial probe read before I updated them all to the latest dash versions.

the 360 FW scene and mod scene in general is always changing and is never 100% safe or certain for that matter, everything is always a test and everything is always being explored for new exploits.

If you can screw up that simple mod you will definitely screw up this mod.
+ this mod does not work for MXIC. Sorry.

This mod also works for MXIC, I've checked on the spare board, read my previous post in this thread;)

why is sputnick a waste of money, you just saw this guy cant get the russian method working with a home made version and a resistor, and why would you want to do a kamakazi on your winbond and take the risk whn you can buy a sputnick and just have an easy install , not sure how much it is ,but i bet it is overpriced ,like if its over 10$ thats overpriced and its prolly 20  , but id still rather use that than do my own russian method or gremia hack, it just makes it nice and neat and simple ,i wish i could use it on my winbond, but i think ill wait before doing the gremia to see if another method comes along ,since i cant seem to get an answer anywhere if another factory board besides a tx unlock will work ,cause i know the minute i do the gremia they will come up with another easier /less risky way
and im also surprised that nobody has sold or had available for printing a template for the winbond chip that you can orerlay on top of the chip with a hole in it or a dot if you were to print it/cut it  out ,so you know where to drill ,instead of tracing the lines

I just have a question on this method.  I'm about to perform this using a soldiering Iron as well (props to the guy using a computer case bracket as a straight edge!)...I just wanted to double check the steps.  I have a Liteon Slim with 0401 FW (Winbond):

1) Do I cut the trace on the back side of the drive board (MRA Hack) first? Or is that only for the beep?

2) If I don't need to cut the trace on the back of the board, do I just connect up the drive to my VIA 6421 using SATA and start up Jungleflasher 186..goto MKT Flash32...Click on Intro....click yes...Use Soldiering Iron at this point and keep checking Jungle Flasher for Status 0x3...Once you get to that point STOP...then close jungle Flasher and Reopen...Goto MKT Flash 32...Status should say 0x0...click on Intro Again...drive should now into vender mode and recongnize flash type....make sure you got your firmware loaded in the Firmware Tab....Go back to MKT Flash...Make sure slim is ticked....then click on Write..

does this sound correct?

no need to do trace cuts. thats for mxic hack only

seems like you have the steps right. but before you do anything you want to get your keys first and save the dummy.bin from slimkey. then once its unlocked do a full dump read

Yup!  I already got the keys dumped from my drive.  I used the IDE-SATA Converter method explained in my post here: My post

Do I need to re-lock the drive after writing the firmware?

Some peeps are saying its not necessary..but I think it might keep Micro$oft's hands off the firwmare.

Thanx for verifiying!

I don't think there's any such thing as a real lock on the fw write, MS could in theory wipe it through update with a newer version, am I wrong in assuming this ?

ok, so basically microsoft locked everyone out...... even themselves from future updating the fw......
thats just something I can't entirely believe

yes, they changed the fw to prevent more people from easily flashing.
they know for a fact that they are starting to sell a crap ton more slim xboxs so to cut down on piracy they update all to locked status.
and it probably is the fw telling the drive to go into a locked state.  no one has figured out the command code to over-ride enable it, so some hack had to come out to short circuit intercept
in the end, same result.
