Yeah, Tiros knows his onions alright. Its only a matter of time before backups are a thing of the past.

That's why the stock box/JTAG is the way forward for me smile.gif

From what i understand, there is theoretically an infinite number of challenges ms can perform to check if the disc is retail. The current firmware responds to these challenges using the known data extracted using some crazy method. But when new challenges are used, the existing data is useless and so a new disc must be burnt that includes responses to the new challenges. MS definately has the upper hand with the latest updates.

I'm surprised no one (I'm talking about Chinese)  yet made a consumer DVD Recorder and consumer DVD discs which would have same angles which are in the original disc.

Once it's made - you can forget about the CFW, AP25 whatever. Just make a backup of your disc which would be 1:1 and that's it.

Is it really so hard to make a DVD ROM which could read and burn and exact copy of the original?

Even if it will costs 100$ or more it would be worth it.

The cost of the needed device would be 100k to 500k so that is why nobody has done it .then you would need
To find someone who makes disks that can be stamped or pressed ,you can not just put this on on dye based disk for the reasons mentioned before it has to be a aluminium based one .cost is to great ..

So does this mean CODBO wont work until a new FW is installed? I just updated my FW for the last dash update a few weeks back... Stupidly reburnt CODBO thinking it had been patched, and realized that was a dumb move... Just wondering if the game will be patched for LT 1.9 or are we going to have to get updated FW to play a patched COD?

I didn't think I'd come off as frantic... didnt meant to... havent played it in months... its not really a big deal if its not updated, patched or if i'll need to update FW to play BO... i just wanted to know if this news meant that a new FW was necessary to play a updated patched COD BO...

Can someone please clear up this samsung/hitachi no ap2.5 info for me?  Can any game (ap2.5 or not) play on samsung & hitachi because they really can't read ap 2.5?  If so I'd really like to hunt down one of these.  Does anyone know the date code for these xbox's?  Or is this just a myth?

its legit, but samsung drives and the hitachi drives this apply to only come in xenon/zephyr models, which means you are very prone to RRoD. also, the system must have come with one of these drives originally. if you put a samsung/hitachi drive in a newer system, it just fails the ap2.5 checks automatically.

what you want to do works for all samsung drives, and all hitachi's except for the 78/79 drives.g

about pressed disc.
actually there a lot of "not original" xbox game disc from china that sold is a PRESSED DISC from factory.
they already do that since the PS1 era if i remember correctly. Sold "not original" pressed disc.

but unfortunalely i dont have those so cant test whether factory pressed "not original" blackops disc from china is working like original or not...

Looks like Xkey360 is going to be the way to go, least then i'll only have to patch the ISO everytime AP2.5 changes, and not keep re-burning discs.

X360key will need a new fimware update but you won't need to reburn your entire collection. Also since your only emulating its easier to develop an update since you have your own hardware base to work on and not confined to the limitations of the dvdrom hardware itself. C4 is tied to the cpu and memory ms uses to their firmware. If ms added stupid loop routines or a thousand bs challenge and responses to the drive fw or better yet randomized ap challenges each boot rather then each update we'd be screwed. The future updates could allow ms to change the playing field outside of the normal dashboard update cat and mouse parameters.

There is a limited amount of AP 2.5 challenges Microsoft can implement. A completely randomized AP 2.5 challenge table would require more data than is available in a system update. The maximum system update size is only 16 megabytes, so you would never expect every game to have AP 2.5, and only then a limited number of challenges.

If Microsoft breaks this convention they break compatibility with older xbox 360's. Microsoft certainly won't do this. There will never be a day when back-ups are impractical due to AP 2.5 updates.
