Well, as it's now sold out and some might not want to pay £40/$60 for a PCB, this "may" be a cheaper alternative.

I don't know where is good to source parts, or how viable, I haven't researched it, I don't really care.

However;

I'm almost certain the MTK found in the liteon etdu108 (£17.50 delivered from some webstores) and an MXIC from a dead BenQ or other source (can't be too expensive)

Replace the MTK (no epoxy on the liteon etdu108)

Wire in the Flash chip externally -

Sadly, I don't know the pins the spi is tied to internally so it can be replicated externally ,maybe someone with the PCB or who has decapped it / knows can tell you

You should then have made your own "pro kit"

Again, I haven't tried it, but the "new" JF (v185, currently unreleased) should be able to WP it.

If you need to write to it again, just disconnect the WP pin.

I guess crossflashing (which is quite common on liteon/mtk dvd drives) might be the way to go once those PCB boards are exhausted.

crossflashing with what exactly?
The only drives/pcbs compatible are 9504/0272,
which are becoming very hard to find, certainly not available in mass numbers, and could be locked by ms,
IF ms choose to send the lock command.

Wiring in the external flash works, I just cant tell you the pins used to do so.

Hi Oggy ,

well, it doesn't come as big a suprise that you already know this. smile.gif

Just a shame that all my pro kits seem to be faulty. When soldering in one of the
pro kit MTKs I just get status 0x80. When replacing with a 1339E or the original 1335WE
again I get 0x72 again.

So clearly the pro kits seem to be faulty or is there any kind of trick to them=
