Can't Get Into Vendor Mode
« on: July 19, 2011, 10:08:00 AM »

So I'm trying to get my 83850c liteon drive into vendor mode. I'm using a via chipset with the drivers disabled on a 64 bit win 6 os, and the xbox power supply to power the dvd drive. I was able to erase the drive, but I didn't do the half way drive tray thing. I opened up the DVD and I have now pull it out half-way, but I still can't get it into vendor mode. My 1st status was 0x00, but now it says 0xFF when it tries to read the drive. I think I have all the information needed. Thanks for the help.

I take it youve got a V1 version of the drive if youve already got the key, try leaving the drive in the half open state and shutiing down the PC then restart and follow the jungleflasher guide.

PS: Youll probably need a via sata chipset for this.

Just try a few times, a few different things.
And clarify - the drive is erased or not?

Connect the power from the Xbox to the drive
Connect the sata cable. Turn on the PC.
Turn on the Box, eject the tray, prepare yourselt and BE CAREFUL - click eject again. When the drive is almost half way closed, pull off the power from the Xbox mainboard.
Set the tray like it should be if it's closed a little too much.
Re-connect the power. Run JF. Should work

If not - disassembling the drive and ejecting the tray manually could help. It's easy and many times discribed here, on the forum.

About the status - just try and try some more - eventually it will work. Just think about any possible methods, do it and you'll be fine. Sometimes it seems like something went wrong but magically you hit "write the new firmware" and it works. Just like that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I don't know why something like this happened to me but everything worked fine eventually.

Tray status has nothing to do with this.  He simply isn't power cycling correctly or isn't on the right port or both.
