I'm beginning to think the DVD drive on my Slim is bricked:

I have a 360 Slim, Lite-On fw 9504 that I opened and flashed with JungleFlasher 1.82 beta back in April when it first came out, this worked fine, and I was able to play backups. So I hadn't actively been paying attention to the Xbox Scene since then because everything worked, so like an idiot I updated with the last dashboard update over the weekend and of course everything stopped working.

So I after the update I read that it should be avoided. I noticed that the Jungle team had updated their tool to 1.83, I downloaded that and attempted to re-flash my drive using the same custom firmware that I used the first time. JF 1.83 saw my drive, I started flashing the same way as I had done the first time, following the PDF instructions and when my drive was in vendor mode half way through the process, it accidentally lost power and now doesn't seem to be working too well.

I turn the console on but when I push the eject button it won't open and it won't show up on my computer in the JungleFlasher tool like it had when the console is powered on. I'm thinking I have to buy a new one.

Any thoughts?

possibly. If jungleflasher was half way through writing files then it is likely firmware is corrupt which stops the xbox being able to communicate properly with the disc drive. Its not as simple as to just buy a new DVD drive as various updates released mean you need to have the right version of drive for your xbox.

I know there are various methods of recovering from a bad flash, however it can get very complicated depending on how badly corrupt firmware is, I wouldn't know what I was doing. I would research what drive you need and purchase a new one.

I haven't worked with the slim drives yet but it sounds like you're still safe. The drive won't eject because its firmware is corrupted. Read through this Bricked Lite-On thread. You should be able to dig yourself out of this hole with dosflash and l-o-eras.

slim 9504 liteons dont respond to liteon erase commands, so thats a waste of time,
you need to follow bad flash recovery method for slim 9504
you need pmt, probe3 or at least a needle connected to ground.
have your firmware ready loaded in target.

1. power off the drive
2. click intro ... make sure that in the same group box that .... Phat ( ) (*) Slim is selected
3. Click yes, to resend vendor intro
4. Now probe the MPX01 point with a probe attached to ground, T-X Probe 3 does exactly this.
5. power on the drive and remove the probe after 1 or 2 seconds
6. Drive should now be in vendor mode......

Hey I really appreciate the help guys, I assume the T-X probe 3 that you're talking about is the one below? I did some searching but I couldn't find anything about what the MPX01 point is?

I do believe the procedure described is what you'll need to try. The point you're looking for is on the underside of the drive's logic board as pictured here:

Hey thanks for the info. I just have another question: Does the T-X Probe 3 do something special that can't be done with some sort of the needle or think rail that's a similar shape? I assume any sort of tool would work as long is touching the ground? Also, I assume by "probing" that just means touching the MPX01 spot with a tool?

PMT method is extremely simple, probe 3 isn't special in my opinion.

To bad flash recover a slim 9504 you NEED a probe or a needle connected to ground nothing more.
It just so happens a pmt/probe does this,so you CAN use one,a full functional pmt/probe3 isnt required.

A probe being connected to ground means connected to some sort of electrical outlet, I assume? And I was looking for a PMT probe around this site, but couldn't quite find what that is, if you don't mind explaining, I'd really appreciate it. And thanks to everyone for being so helpful.
