I also think that it's safer to:
1. Write the OFW
2. Update Dash to latest. Restart few times. Play the original disc.
3. Write CFW (1.9 or 2.0)

Somehow I feel that if Microsoft can write DVDROM FW during the update, I'm sure they can read it prior update as well. And if MS can read it, they can make a record somewhere (or in other words - flag a potential victim).

Of course this is not a reason for ban as after the update console gets OFW. But during the next update MS could check the record and if a guy again has a CFW somehow punish him (don't let update the dash until CFW is not written back to stock, ban the poor guy etc.).

My advice: flash back to OFW before updating the Dash.

That makes no sense, firmware info is sent to MS each time you log into LIVE. This is why there have been countless revisions of iXtreme and why LT is still thought to be undetectable. If it's undetectable, there's no need to flash back to stock, and if you think MS can detect it, then they've already been doing it when you sign into LIVE.

MS have never flashed drives before - Things change.

Who knows what extra checks they can do while its in read/write mode.

* 0272 – use of 9504 LT+ NOT recommended
* 02501c – use of 93450c LT+ NOT recommended

Does that mean even LT+ 1.9?  Or even 2.0? and Why not recommended?

i'm pretty certain that the recommendation is to not use LT+1.1 over the new drive ofw.

more conjecture here, but is in the "well, yeah, that should be obvious" category: LT+1.9 will be released before LT+2.0 due to the work still being done on "how" to fit XGD3 discs onto some type of end-user backup media.

Hey guys I have a phat lite-on, 93450C.  I did not re-flash back to OFW before updating.  I know I should have but I guess I was in to much of a hurry.  I have an original of black ops & needed to play online.  But I am not flagged for a ban yet at least according to x-val I'm not.  Then again if I am I will just sell on craigslist or ebay and just buy another one, but this time I will get a jasper instead of my falcon.  I also have a slim 9504 and will not be updating that one until the new cfw comes out.  It looks like the slim 9504 will be the 1st one released which is great!!!

And?
What's the sense of your post? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

DVD ROM firmware is NOT checked when you're connecting to LIVE! Never was!
Do you think each time you log in into live Console puts DVD ROM into a firmware readable mode, reads the firmware, checks it, sends results to MS? I can image what would be Xbox boot time if it's true smile.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong, but only during the launch of the game console makes checks. And it has nothing to do with logging into LIVE.

And you're mixing two different things: DVDROM response when backup is inserted and game launched vs. read of the firmware and comparing it to original which is supposed to be installed.

Dash update process is something different. And during the Dash update - I don't see any problems why MS couldn't read the FW and take some actions.

Search for some posts of GaryOPA and you'll know. In short: lawsuits and stuff

GaryOPA has been around, and probably still is, but he spends a lot of his time over at PSX-Scene working in the PS3 homebrew scene.

What happened to guys like Birdy & GaryOPA with there firmwares?

would you dev for this scene? Look what happened to the guys who did the ap25 patch a couple weeks ago. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=730970
And anyone else who tries to contribute. They get run out of town by the cult of personality.
I wouldn't directly blame c4e. I think he is  a brilliant man, but this kind of behavior is going to kill this scene.

God dam people on here i remember with the old xbox you had a choice mod your xbox and no live forever or go on live without a modded xbox that was the choice, now every one expects live as a right.

God forbid if c4eva ever get taps up by microsoft as no one else would be able to carry thew scene forward

IPB Image

Hitachi 79 supports AP2.5

This is likely nothing more than the usual reason Hitachi gets updates last - they have so many different firmware versions it is more work than all the other drives put together.

no, sorry Bad_Ad, you are wrong!
I called M$ and asked if my "ORIGINAL" old hitachi 360 can read the new upcomming disc format after the update, and they confirmed that ALL 360s are able to read XGD3 after accept the update!
Then is not true that old hitachi drives gonna need a new CFW to read XGD3 since those drives are not been flashing by the systemupdate, they just need to accept update! Thats all.
AP 2.5 is other thing, hitachi 78 and 79 do AP 2.5, older ones NOT! (that didnt changed)
wink.gif
EDIT: im pretty sure that c4eva gonna give us some light and clarify this situation when publish the new CFW for all the other drives

all of this waiting has gotten me out of the apartment and away from my xbox and tv.
after 3 days straight on the beach I have a pretty nice tan, and sunburn going on.
beer never tastes so good unless your feet are buried in wet sand while sitting in the lazy chair!

thanks c4 - I'll run with 1.9 since the likelihood of having a game come out any time soon with the new disc format will be awhile... depending on what the differences are they may have to get each developers team up to speed with the new MS format and have a couple seminars and lectures.

* 02501c – use of 93450c LT+ NOT recommended. Does anyone know why this is? Kinda unclear. I have this drive with LT+ running fine however it's not the 1.9 of course. I'd be bummed if I can't update. x360key on preorder I wonder how that's gonna stealth with new dash?

your kind of behavior kills the scene - you bash on everyone and everything yet offer absolutley nothing in return. the russian guy had to be called out due to the fact that the patches are not live safe in any way and are not measured by the drive itself but the entire band of measurement which is not the way to do it and was totally irresponsible to release them without sufficient warnings that they were not live safe. He even said that they were safer then the c4 patches which was a total fabrication and bullshit. If you support that kind of thing then that shows your level of knowledge.

You are not a developer you are a retailer. You rely on the work of the very people that you bash. You offer nothing to anyone in the scene other than to stand on your soap box and hope that someone pays attention to your drivel.

because its not a firmware based on the new version so of course its not classed as safe - i thought that was crystal clear ?

you pre ordered a product that you know absolutley nothing about and will not be able to get around ANY of these new protections ? You must have money to burn - can I get a job where you work lol smile.gif

You are playing with fire. You may be flagged and banned.

I've been running LT+ 1.1 flagged for over 5 months now and haven't been banned. Not saying I won't in the future, but it's all up to MS to decided when they start their ban waves.
