Getting Around Spoofed Drives
« on: May 27, 2011, 01:59:00 PM »

OK i think this is NEW news here ...

Now a few people ive read are having probs updating to the new dash because there drive is spoofed
and if they do they get E65 etc
or are NOT updating because they have a spoofed drive and fear the E65 etc

well ive just stumbled on a fix, mainly because i needed to update with no Liteon drive to hand
now originally the 360 had been fixed somewere else, and had fitted in a BENQ drive
now it must of had a LITEON drive originally as it was spoofed to that !

so we have a BENQ drive Spoofed to Liteon
it fails the Update, gives the 360 E65, the Benq is now semi-bricked and not viewable by Jungleflasher
so i go into real dos, use Dosflash, read, and erase, and re-flash the drive

BUT now here is the deal breaker, i flash with STOCK firmware for the drive WITH a key and UNSPOOFED
(now of course we know that this will not allow games to be played due to 360 seing a missmatch drive type)
now fire 360 up, ask for update, and update WORKS, and games BOOT !!!
switch off, and dump firmware (firmware now not working in jungleflasher as of the new type)
reflash drive with LT+1.1 UNSPOOFED
fire up, and the console is WORKING/Booting games with now a UNSPOOFED drive

so to summerize
1. you can get round a spoofed drive update failure, by using unspoofed STOCK firmware for the drive (with correct key, not messed with that yet!)
2. Doing this effectivly Unspoofs you 360 !! or the new dash does not worry about drive missmatch !

Edit, of course this will prob be flagged for ban now, is unlikly live safe, althou i would imagine mainly for the e65! mas

If I'm not mistaken, drives which don't match OSIG but have the same features as the original drive (AP2.5, etc.) work on the last dash. If that's the case, this is not news. If I'm wrong about that, then this is certainly an interesting suggestion.

If the drive is switched out for a different drive without the same features (say, a Samsung replacing a Lite-On) and it works with AP2.5 games, then I think you have something. Otherwise, I just don't see it.

I cannot comment on this exact scenario, but I have seen drives accept new osig, when a drive is replaced and console updated.  So I believe your case to be true, and others can attempt who are in "trouble"

Maybe they are passing (but logging) OSIG since the new update.... (Wise strategy if they are...  ;-)

Can ppl report what drives they have success with on this one??

I guess a 360 that can have it's drive serviced, is a console that will generate income for longer ... Plus there are many, many other considerations.

 good on ya M$!

Wini-Win scenario ..

So I have a BenQ spoofed as a LiteOn.
Are you saying a load the LiteOn 74850c stock firmware onto my BenQ and then update ?

Short answer NO
put the CORRECT stock firmware for the model of BenQ you have, as theres two types of BenQ (with of course the correct key)
NO spoofing, NO lliteon firmware required
and update .....

Keep us posted (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

edit (but of course how live safe this is, or what the long term effect of this is, is unkown. I would imagine if it was kept stock, then i dont see any problems ?)

My BenQ is already on stock firmware and I am unable to update.
I get a 0001 error which I see most people with spoofed drives are getting.
I believe my xbox is tryna flash with LiteOn stock firmware and obv it cant do that because I have a BenQ drive :/

so you have, STOCK Benq firmware on you BenQ drive which is NOT spoofed atall ?
(as you have teh correct key on it also)
and you getting errors ?

after it fails, does it still boot up ok, and is it still on the older 955 dash ??

Ye I get a long error that ends in 0001
Xbox.com/support tells me to send in the xbox for repair.
Although I know most people with spoof'd drives get this error and MS wont repair as their console in modified.
Im on the latest dashboard before the new May19th update.

your getting Error 65 because of your past update failed Because you had it spoofed as a liteon
the 360 thought it was a liteon, and tried flashing to it, it partially flashed it and thuis currupted it
(you can unplug it, which will also allow it to boot temp.)

you need to ERASE the flash (prob in in dos? as JF/windows wont see it now, due to curruption)
then re-flash with BenQ , UNSPOOFED with correct key

Which should allow it to then boot up properly again
then re-try updated

Having had a lot of help from reading these forums thought it time i gave a little back. I had a few consoles that had spoofed drives in for repair, most were e65 errors and a couple of others just failed to eject properly and crashed console. All were benq that originally were lite-on

Using the guide in first post solves it but to eliminate the need to use dos just do the following
(i use the ck3 for connection btw and running windows 7)

Disable the VIA sata drivers (command prompt "rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\vsmraid.sys vsmraid.sys2")
Reboot PC
Launch J/F
J/F will probably say no drive connected at this point but hit intro/Device ID and keep turning drive on and off
J/F code will say 0x80 but after a few tries it will turn to 0x73 and it will then let you read your firmware for key
In firmware tool tab copy your key from source
Load stock firmware for the benq drive and hit manual spoofing and input your key. Make sure OSIG dropdown box is clear and then flash to drive
put back into xbox and do online update and everything now works fine

To re enable VIA sata on pc (command prompt "rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\vsmraid.sys2 vsmraid.sys")

Hope this helps some of you out there
