Taking A Crack At The Digital Sata Switch
« on: April 20, 2011, 08:39:00 PM »

I have read it a few times in this forum that it's OK to tie all the ground wires together, but I just want to make sure.

Those of you who are using a switch (4PDT toggle) to change between devices, how are your 360s holding up?

The reason I ask is because it's been bothering me why the other guy who attempted the digital switch never finished his project.  Did he just give up or did he screw something up in his box...makes me kinda curious as he was the only person to attempt a digital switch.

Also, is there a need to ground both the 360 and the PC when we are already using the ground in the SATA wires?

(If I can get good answers to the above, it will help in my decision in choosing the proper IC (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )

What switch are you referring to?

I was working on a switch too (this one), but I've been way too busy, I still have a lot to do but I might work on it every now and then (Hope to finish it soon).

Oh, I guess I should've been more clear.  Since this is the DVD-ROM forum, I thought everyone would assume it's the DVD Drive I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the switch that is installed so that users can flip a switch between which cable is connected to the 360 DVD drive so that they don't have to open their case every time they want to update the firmware.  The switch will change the SATA connection between 360 DVD Drive <=> PC     OR     360 DVD Drive <=> 360 Motherboard

Basically I want to build a digital version of this:-

This is the idea, but it was never completed:-

So I decided to try this project.  But first I need answers to my first post.  I'll be modifying my original post to reflect what I said here.

(If the moderator feels this topic is in the wrong place, then feel free to move it to case mods or wherever it fits.  I chose this place because it deals with 360 DVD drive)
