Do old Hitachi and Samsung consoles still boot after the update. I mean as those drivers don't support AP2.5 in the first place.  huh.gif

There is a faq now pinned to this forum but the answer is no because all drives during the update get flashed with a new retail firmware...all updated 360's need to be reflashed but for now I'm gonna hold off until a new cfw is release based off the new retail fw

This might be a stupid question (still I'm gonna test it first thing on Monday) but I wondered... The dashboard is flashing modded drives. What's the chance it's taking the key from the motherboard instead from the drive? I'm asking because this could be a way to fix consoles without keys.

The real reason that I'm asking is because I have a console with such problem, but I removed it's nand form some reason (don't ask why) and I don't know if it will start when I return it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (I didn't actually did it, so I don't know how good it was removed). Never mind that, the main idea is if it is possible, and if someone could test this hypothesis too, by dumping a drive (to save the original key), flashing it with FFs for a key and updating to the new dash (I figure some if you will be doing tests with the new dash, so I wanted to throw this test case in the mesh)

Do you remember this http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/Ek...ZpuCOUujZej.php

So maybe if we will do something like this (for drive ofcourse) maybe MS will not reflash our dvd? (like nand protect for motherboard?)

Well... you can just, I don't know... update your console with drive removed smile.gif Way back I did get on live without a dvd drive... so there was no instant ban or anything like that.

Edit: The update could be applied offline, too (just forgot) smile.gif

Not positive but seen this update involves flashing the DVD drive I would think the update would not go through without the DVD drive connected....it just my guess.... but I would like to see someone try it out.

That question pretty much answers itself; it fails of course.

I don't know about all this just yet. I have the update and my ap2.5 games still work.
Along with the disk that was sent in the mail. I have not tried anything non ap2.5 though I might do that now.

This update will be very hard to work around for C4Eva.
It shows that Microsoft can read the firmware (since they are only applying patches) which in turn means that any CFW we create would need to fake large blocks of data in order to hide their modifications from Microsoft. Depending on how much free space there is on the flash, this may be very hard to do.
Either way the very fact that the update fails on most modified systems indicates that even LT+ does not behave like the original firmware and is therefore detectable.
Let's hope C4Eva finds a new way to beat this protection.

Doubt they can read it, Liteon can only be read when SPI is empty, so they can't read it without MRA hack or erasing the Fw, Key can be acquired from keyvault and new Inquiry can be created based on the new FW, no need to read smile.gif

I'm confused, I thought the beta dash OVERWROTE f/w, regardless of modded or not, and that's why people suddenly complained of being unable to play backups etc?

I didn't realise a modded system would fail to update? If that's the case, then yes, you're right, they MUST be able to detect / read the modded f/w so PerfectCell would be wrong in saying that LiteOn needs to be erased first etc... Maybe for US, yes, but not for MS.
