How To Make Warthogs Fly
« Reply #60 on: August 18, 2003, 03:24:00 PM »

this was tight. i got everything working. but i have a question for anyone who has done this. when i put no hover on the warthog or scorpion it follows the code and falls when flying, but when i put no hover on the ghost when flying, it still floats and hovers in air. did i do something wrong or ghosts have to hover in the air. I wrote the write code on the dmarios' new site.

Ok I did exactly what the tut said and all my other hacks work but this one confuses the hell out of me.
Everyone has a different version of the "simple" tutorial, I dont see why it cant look like it does when BOLL did it.
He has them all listed out, its really easy on the eyes, but this one has 2 offsets to replace (or so I understand) I dont get the "replace everything between" stuff, how far does that go?

Then rocketman121 said:
"1. Go To 02340658
2. Replace "44 0A 8B 80" with "40 7F 8F 80"
3. Go To 0283465C
4. Start typing:
05 00 00 00 AE 47 61 3E 00 00 00 00 6F 12 03 3C
6F 12 83 3C F9 0F C9 3F 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
CD CC 4C 3E"

This makes no sense. When I go to offset 02340658 it doesnt say 44 0A 8B 80,
it says fe 5e a6 2a.

Can someone who really knows what theyre doing just plain and simply say how to make the hog fly like the banshee, I am not saying the makers of this hack dont know what they are doing, but those of us who are trying to catch onto this hex-editing stuff dont always understand it when it gets technical.
thanks.

I did not understand the "everything between stuff" also until i read it a couple of times.
Maybe you are using a file you had already changed? Steps 1 and 2 include these things:

Physics
Warthog (2340658) 44 0A 8B 80
Ghost (2342138) 40 7F 8F 80

As for this part:
QUOTE
4. Start typing:
05 00 00 00 AE 47 61 3E 00 00 00 00 6F 12 03 3C
6F 12 83 3C F9 0F C9 3F 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
CD CC 4C 3E

I have been getting some questions about it. Just go to that offset and start typing immediately. DO NOT go to the beginning of the line. Hope this Helps!!

Yea Ive been using a virgin cache003.map.
Ok, this is pissing me off, Im doing exatly what everyone says but the hog doesnt change a bit, it drives like normal.

1. Opened virgin cache003.map file.
2. Using HDD HexEditor I goto offset 02340658 and type 40 7F 8F 80
3. goto offset 0283465C and start typing 05 00 00 00 AE 47 61 3E 00 00 00 00 6F 12 03 3C 6F 12 83 3C F9 0F C9 3F 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 CD CC 4C 3E

that should be it, right?

rocketman121 you said "replace 44 0A 8B 80" with "40 7F 8F 80" but when I goto offset
02340658 it says fe 5e a6 2a.
Am I at the wrong offset?

And as slidellsimba2 says to goto offset 0283465C it does not say 04 00 00 00 66 66 66 3E 00 00 00 00 0A D7 A3 3B 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00,
it says:
00 00 00 00 73 74 61 6e 64 20 6d 69 73 73 69 6c 65 20 6c 61 6e 64 2d 68 61 72 64 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 28 00 8c 00 01 00 98 64 fa 6c 13 00 1e 00

I MUST be at the wrong offsets, please someone help!

Ok, we wont get anywhere if things are too complicated. So lets keep things simple.

Open HHD Hex Editor
Open cache003.map
Type Ctrl-G
Type 02340658

And what do you see on the line?
I see:
02340650:       81 02 f5 e3 a1 ae 3b 80 44 0A 8B 80 00 00 00 00

It's really a simple process, guys. I don't know why so many people are running into problems... it's not like hex editing is difficult when you got the friggin' offset to go to and the values to type in.

Sephiroth311, in Hdd Hex Editor Goto: 'Tools' > 'Options' > and change the settings from 'Decimal' to 'Hex'.

This is what the settings SHOULD look like when youve fixed the problem...

Neither the pic or the link worked, but my settings are already on Hex.
Thanks anyway...

Am I using the wrong hex editor?

Yes hex editing is really friggin easy, and I havent had a single problem until now, so geez, either attempt to help, or dont say anything at all.
Thank you.
