Liteon 74850c Mra Hack Problems
« on: December 30, 2010, 01:21:00 PM »

hi

i have a 74850c drive here
it has ix LT 1.1 on it
doing the drive half open trick would not do squat for this drive to get dummy from ix.

so i believe i have to do the MRA hack as this is what i had to do with a previous drive same model.

ok that other one went just fine.

this one is givign me all 777777777777777777 as the dvd key.
no way am i writing the data back like that heheh

ok so upon removing my 1.5 switch i clean solder points up and am noticing im getting a short across a couple of points, on a fresh board from the same drive this short is not presant.

can any1 help me here as the drive clearly aint dumping the key right so i cant proceed further.
the 2 arrows in the pic are the points that are shorting.
and as you can see there is clearly no solder bridging across the 2 tracks

thanks for any help and pointers here guys

Well, you might want to ditch the lt switch, it's junk.
Use the Boxxdr method.

take a picture of your drive.  obviously there is a short and all you have to do is look at it to tell it is there, then remove that solder.  if you have removed any obvious shorts and still have one, then you can toss the whole thing in the trash.

It's pretty hard to recover from shorts, majority of the time there's nothing you can do except
just learn better electronics skills for future mods.
One of the few ppl on this forum that even has a chance of helping you is syntaxerror329

there's a big difference: see boxxdr jpeg and your pic...

With traces cut and power from ck3 (or 360)  voltage at pin101 is 2,15v
and if u look the second (vertical) cut it's 2,15v on the left and 1,30v on the right

check these values

when u repair traces everything 3,3v

Clean the pcb with braid and use good flux, it helps a lot.

the board is cleaned with braid and no need for flux.

there is no shorts across my solder points on this board.

the 2 vertical lines i do just to make it easier that trying to cut out the actual 101 point
i put a jump wire across the left and right contacts then so all is good.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you are wanting to do anything with this drive if it already has LT 1.1 on it.
