Occam's Razor... there is no way M$ would do that. Thats so much money in man power, resources, and time into basically security patrols for the scene.

Are you suggesting that Microsoft hasn't done similar things in the past? Why have there been so many new drive revisions in quick succession with different security measures? Multiple revisions of Hitachi drives and LiteOn drives with new security measures combat your statement. This consistent evidence available supports the theory that Microsoft is actively combating the hacking of DVD-ROMs on 360 consoles.

Could be worse.
Could be Thomson!

LMAO! I haven't seen one of those in YEARS (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Come to think about it, I can't even remember if it was those drives that wouldn't read CD-RW discs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

OT: I'm so tempted to open my Slim just to see what drive I have.
I have the Kinect Bundle that's almost a month old so hopefully they started adding these in the mix recently.

Hitachis.... *shudders*

Im sure microsoft has the spies all over this site thats for sure thats why every revision on these drives comes with the quickness now there back to the shitty hitachi whether they seem fine at first or not isnt the issue im sure down the road them drives will turn to crap just like the old hitachis.

But who knows mirosoft is all about saving money but yet they wait tons on anti piracy and it gets them no were everytime lol I bet one year from this date all slim drives will be hacked and working including this hitachi and any new revision of it or liteons!

I wonder what happened to Hitachi's quality standards? IIRC, I had the OEM Hitachi/LG drive in one of my original xbox consoles and it was a pretty good drive.

@Aldanga

I just doesnt seem likely that M$ would actively release the new drives every time there is a new F/W out. I can believe that they search the net for info like we do and report to their security teams 'this is what they are doing and here is how they are doing it.'

Granted I do not know how the scene gets these things to work. I just believe that M$ is fighting a war with limited resources against an enemy that is much larger in numbers.

They certainly could win. That by no means will ever be ruled out. I am simply saying to spend the amount of money spent on the salary on the workers who range from the people who scour the net searching for intel to the supervisors and the directors that direct their attacks in conjunction with price of their equipment, location of their offices, and the little amount of time that has been suggested between new CFW and drive revisions just doesnt seem probable. I think M$ is better suited at spending their money on dictating the direction of the war and not dumping money into R&D every time someone hacks their xbox. Atleast i would try to control the future of the scene.

lol but this is my novice opinion and dont, please dont, take anything i say as fact because its my speculation.

Edit: to add intended recipient

I think you can't compare this drive with the old Hitachi series.
This drive uses almost the same laser lens as the Benq and Liteon.
hxxp://img227.imageshack.us/i/068r.jpg/
You can see that it is almost the same laser lens except it is a 15xx.
In the Liteon and Benq they used the Sanyo HOP-1401. I think this is the same one.
Could you post a photo of the top of the drive without cover soloyo? It is very interresting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
This drive should read as good as all the other drives and is also quiet.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Pwahh. Two reasons for all of this I reckon, 1 is to keep us on the hop, 2 is due to production costs. Oh sorry, 3 is because they know what a pain in the arse the hitachi's were for firmware.

interesting....
i've bricked like 3 or 4 hitachi's  This is before jungleflasher days tho; plus i've never had the best of luck on my nforce4 chipset.  I hate hitachi's..

Thats just sad hitachis were a pain and from the 1st brick 1 would either stop doing them or just buy a via6421 card like the rest of us did.. My Mod PC has onboard VIA 8237 or somthin so i had no probs accetp for certain H-LG47Dj would not appear at all. VIA6421 pci card has done every drive since best 15-20$ i spent. Maybe you should do the same..  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Soloyo,
do you have any possibilities to describe how the "noise" is compared to slim liteon ?

Awwww, this takes me back to the crosswire trick and GaryOpa's old firmware (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Dont forget birdys drive bricking app which i used one time lucky for me worked great but not for everyone. Not his fault he did say use at own risk and he made from the 47dj which was what i used it on. Cant remember if it was being used on other models and that was the problem. He has contributed alot over the years so well done birdy and all the rest of the peeps who put in hours of time out of your life to make these projects come to life. A big thanks to C4E without none of this would be happening.
