Swapped Drives And Ap2.5 Question
« on: December 02, 2010, 02:33:00 PM »

I have an older 360 that had a samsung drive in it. Drive still works but doesn't read backups properly (never did). I swapped it for a benq drive, spoofed it as a sammy and all is good in the world.

My question: From what I have read, it is possible to spoof a benq drive as a sammy and still be able to run AP 2.5 games offline without issue, but it will still log that this is not the proper drive and get banned once I hit live, is this correct?

So, in short, can a benq drive (spoofed as sammy) run AP2.5 offline?

additional info: 360 currently not banned, would like to keep it that way but dont really care if it does get banned (silver account only for demos, free downloads, 360 is on its last legs, etc.). Also, does NOT have the kenect update....yet.

Also, I have read that sammy drives (for now) are "safe" from ap2.5. If so, can I get my sammy to work properly with backups? (NOTE: ALL backups work fine in benq. With sammy drive, one or two will be recognized as a 360 game but fail to boot, and all others just say open tray. Sammy was flashed properly and originals load just fine and the media is verbs.).

You're mixing 2 issues.  Samsung boxes can boot AP25 discs because they just ignore the checks.  Boxes with BenQ can boot AP25 discs because the drive CAN read them with LT+.

Spoofing your BenQ is fine for offline but you couldn't go the other way i.e. if your box had a BenQ with a spoofed Samsung the checks would be expected to pass but would actually fail.

Not if the original drive was an ap25 enabled drive. Sammy will only work if the board was originally paired with either a sammy or hitachi. Buzzcut is correct.

You have to understand that many people will read this post (not just the thread starter) and think that their sammy will load ap25 games no matter what as long as the have lt 1.0 flashed to it.

Swapped Drives And Ap2.5 Question
« Reply #6 on: December 03, 2010, 10:07:00 AM »

Thank you very much for clearing this up, much appreciated.

Yea, I did know that sammy's ignored the checks, allowing AP2.5 to boot, but I did not know what would happen when swapped with a drive that would actually respond to those checks.

Also, I did get some headway with the reading issues with the sammy, but with no "real" luck. POT adjustment did help in allowing the 360 to see all the games, but they all still failed to boot regardless. Tried POT adjustments from factory (4.34) all they way down to 3.01.

Anyway, My original (primary) question was asked and answered.

Also, cilo911, I did research and if you read through my first post, you would have seen that I knew of sammy's being "safe" from ap2.5 twards the end of my first post.

The reason for the question/post was because I found contradicting posts regarding spoofing drives (I.E. using a drive capable of responding to ap2.5 in place of the original drive that ignored them, like the sammy drives).

Man, reading skills must be a forgotten art. I bold, underlined AND changed the color of the text of my previous post as to WHY I asked the question in the first place.....

Swapped Drives And Ap2.5 Question
« Reply #11 on: December 04, 2010, 12:10:00 AM »

Haha, you are too funny man.

1. Why do you keep bringing up that thread? I never once referenced/talked/discussed or posted in that thread?

2. How do you assume I am "bashing" on that thread? I am talking about THIS thread, with the fact that I posted my question regarding the fact that I found contradicting posts about drive spoofing and AP2.5 (NOTE: I DID NOT say which posts/where/which forums I found them on...yes, I research other places other then x-s, and yes, I did find posts here also that contradict drive spoofing.)

3. Before you go about giving out labels to people (a.k.a. childish name-calling), you might want to work on your own posting abilities and see how they reflect on yourself before you hit that ego-boosting reply button.

Finally, Please don't bother posting a reply back in this thread. I had a question, did some research, posted my question because of the contradicting various posts I found, and got a straight answer. Also, I do grow tired of feeding trolls, and to prevent any further attempted "flaming" or "trolling" in a thread in which no longer serves a purpose, I am requesting that a moderator lock this thread.

Thank you.
