Can we not extract the AC:B dash update and install that from USB as well?
And surely the AC:B update just overwrites that.  What is different about installing 2 other older updates first to just updating directly to the dash included on AC:B?

Yes you probably can extract the AC:B update however I haven't tried it, a friend came across the other workaround somewhere on the internet.

I am assuming that the updates don't overwrite each other if the same files are on the system already. AC:B probably requires certain files that the adventure update has and some files that the animal update has but apparently the adventure update does not have ap 2.5 enabled in the core files that animal would update along with additional files it installs and same with AC:B update; it probably installs additional files but does not update the files already on the system without the 2.5 check. I did not make sense to me either but I don't think it is possible for us to know I can only speculate but this makes most sense to me and seems to work for now.

My only question is if there is any chance this will be a permanent alternative to LT+

I would be willing to bet money that the next update from MS will make sure AP2.5 is enabled. With so many people spreading the word about this glitch on forums, there is no way MS wont find out about it. The only reason it works now is because the first beta versions don't seem to have ap2.5 enabled properly and the newer versions are not addressing this problem correctly. It will be fixed, it is just a matter of time. LT+ is the real solution to AP2.5.
