More Info from C4Eva: AP2.5 Trigger, SSv3, Activate AP2.5, Retail AP2.5 Games, Old Games, x360SED
Posted by XanTium | November 3 00:13 EST | News Category: Xbox360

C4Eva talked a bit more about the new AP2.5 (Anti-Piracy v2.5) protection and answered some questions in #FW@EFnet.

[+c4eva] just a word of warning on the sed "disc swap" [note x-s: see our x360SED v1.0 news], although this passes the timing check, ap25 also returns data from its check which will be wrong with the wrong disk and will get you banned!

[+c4eva] the trigger for ap25 is still being investigated, but assume a list of titles of some sort or some check, not the xex!
[+c4eva] no ap25 traffic was ever logged with fifa 09

[**] c4eva, it is known yet whether AP2.5 can flag you in an offline state?
[+c4eva] **:yes it can
[+c4eva] console flag

[***] SSv3 just for ap2.5 games or all others?
[+c4eva] ssv3 will be required for any game that activates ap25

[****] c4eva: does that mean old games that dont have ap25, that we burned, as ssv2 are safe?
[+c4eva] ****:yes

[*****] c4eva do you think it is possible that they activate ap25 with a title update on old games?
[+c4eva] possible

[*****] c4eva is it a bad idea playing a retail ap25 game on current fw too ?
[*****] well obv. for new dash
[+c4eva] *****:should be fine

None of this is new. It's all been addressed in the last few days.

Yes, no offense to the other thread, but listening to what is and isn't from "xboxboi69" just doesn't hold much weight for me; seriously, that thread is a mess of know-nothing folks seeming to have any authority to give suggestions. It's nice to know that, for the sake of safety, just playing the retail discs is the best advice for a little while. Erring on the side of caution, as usual, is the safer method at this point.

What I would love to know now is what titles from the past have the capability of getting an ap 2.5 title update (such as fifa 09), which could be dangerous to play a backup of if certain conditions changed. How many games/game publishers have put this into their game discs from the past few years we may now have to steer clear of for a little bit?

If you look at how long a member has been here and their relative post count that will generally give you a good idea of their reliability. However, some exceptions do apply.  wink.gif

As for AP2.5 being added: I've said before that it's my understanding that this security check can be used with all games, and this needing only a title update. I might be wrong, but that is my understanding. If this turns out to be incorrect it saves a lot of hassle with recreating backups, but it's what I understand at this point.

Short and sweet: if you use custom firmware on LIVE--which I don't recommend as it's a breach of the TOU and will eventually get you banned--don't play anything but originals until further notice.

I have a comment, questions:

I updated my console with the latest Kinect Dashboard. My console has a flashed Hitachi drive spoofed as Lite-On. I tried Fable 3 and I got the disc error message, meaning it did not pass AP2.5. My questions are:

Is my console flagged because of that one time not passing AP2.5?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

If so, Is it possible to reverse the flag by playing retail copy of Fable 3?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Should I get trade-in the console before it gets ban?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)

God dammit people, PLEASE quit spamming all these threads with the same questions about your console. Nobody knows if you'll be banned, so STOP ASKING. If you think you might, do whatever you think is the correct step, as nobody else can tell YOU what you should/shouldn't do at this point except err on the side of caution. Sell/trade-in/bake a cake/do nothing/etc.... just stop looking for answers where nobody has them... it only invites opinions-as-answers, which doesn't help anyone.

First question: Probably.

Second: Unlikely.

Third: It'll end up in a situation where they go by your house and demand their money back.

And agree on mdoggie,   just read the news that passes by and if you checked other threads about the banning and whatnot ,  you would know an answer to your questions.

I think its awesome though that c4 has been giving updates as much as he has for  the past few days.
He must me getting asked a ton of stupid questions right now, well stupid to him.
Man he is like a frigging rock star or almost godly like.

Keep up the updates and the good work C4EVA!!

I think it would be cool if someday Microsoft puts a message in their firmware saying something like
"C4 If you can read this ____ ____" Just to play with him a bit.

Ok I think I'm gettting stupid now to.

My console has been offline flagged and cripples. How can I un-flag it. I have not been banned from Xbox Live because I can still create a repair order.

I was in the Beta and I played Fable 3 backup (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (Offline ONLY)

xVal 2.0 shows AP 2.5 check fail.

Can I use a USB Nand flasher and un flag my console ?

Profile Corrupts - I want to keep the console for Offline use only.

Does this mean that Samsung drives and the Hitachi's that don't support ap25 will not need SSv3?

That is what c4 said the other day so I would think that would be the case.
There are a few reports of people with older hitachi drives playing fable 3 and not getting flagged.

But then there are a couple people who said the game wouldn't boot.

Best wait and stay away from fable for now until this all smooths over.

what about if I have two 360s.  One is modded and the other I use for live.  Can I still switch HDDs or will I be flagged?

I never have cared much about the bannings I just have always wanted an explanation as to why some systems get banned vs others that have the exact same firmware, played the exact same games gett banned vs others that don't. I'm still on a 2 of my systems running boot disc because they didn't get banned. Just strange.

Wondering what msft will do for older toshiba-samsung, and hitachi drives. That's my main focus because if they are just going to say forget those roms then that's great news for me since I have a never connected to live hitachi and samsung oler sytems that have red ring of death but or easily fixable just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Only a question: If i play a backup of an Ap 2.5 game (like fable 3) in a console with the old dashboar, i'll get flagged?

I just think of no, 'cause the ap 2.5 check is only un the new Kinect dash. Am i wrong?
