That's not going to work. You might want to take a look at this front page post, specifically the part about OSIG.

I have and i thought as the osig is checked as part of ap25, and the Samsung and Hitachi skip it, then it would skip the osig, if not il have to buy a hitachi drive then

It is, kind of. OSIG is checked by the dashboard rather than AP2.5 on a disk etc. as far as I am aware. Which is why drive spoofing is now easily detectable.

I take it that means that original games with AP2.5 will also not work in my console in its current state? Or is it just backups?

Good question, honestly I am not sure about that one.
I would have thought it may actually effect originals too, as the console will still be failing the check OSIG check no matter the disk in the drive.

hmm...

I have a Hitachi 79 that was banned last year...

I updated the dash via NFS, but I get the disc unreadable error...  i thought hitachi's were supposed to work?  maybe cuz I'm banned?

I can thankfully still play all my old games...  cod bo, etc...

any ideas?

I have the hitachi rev 78FK and i can confirm that AC:BH works.Although it is important to update from the net/usb/dvd instead of the game itself.
