One more question here....the pic with the finish product, the part where there is a big gaping hole on the case that have clear tape covering it, can it be like pounded flat instead of cutting it?

Kind of a related question: I have a 74850 Lite-On that can't read anything anymore and a 83850v2 that seems completely shot and can't be recognised or spin up.

Are the boards in the Lite-Ons compatible enough with each other that I can put the working board from the 74850 into the working hardware of the 83850 and potentially get a working drive from the two?

All 4 versions of the original lite-on use the exact same drive board. You can flash them with any of the lite-on firmwares so you wouldn't even need to spoof your version but rather you would just flash the actual version you wish to use.

Thanks!

Pounding that spot flat would cause the metal shell to become deformed. I don't suggest it.

To all the members that took that time to say thanks, I really appreciate it.

sorry for my noob question...
Do you think this will work for future games? What about c4eva's findings regarding ap25?

Perhaps when the ap2.5 firmware comes out for the old lite-on's it will work. This is probably why i already sold this unit with instructions not to update it.

I also have the original drive board so if i have to i can revert it back. With the new iXtreme LT+ possibly being just a few weeks away the smart thing to do is wait.
