Question About Firmware Lt And Lt1.1 On Liteon
« on: October 12, 2010, 09:01:00 PM »

Hi,

I have a liteon drive 7850 with Ixtreme LT. I have some problem with unreadable disk during gameplay with some of my last backup.

It happen at different time on the disk.

My question, if I never had a problem before, could it be my drive starting to be more picky? Or it's only a bad batch (like the last 5 dvd-r dl of the spindle) of dvd?

Do I have to update my firmware to 1.1? Or it's a wasting time for me?

Thanks

1.1 adds some media compatibility, so it's worth a shot.   If that doesn't work, your laser is likely starting to die.

If the first batch still play fine then it's either the media or your burner.  If none of your backups work OK and even originals are having issues then it's your laser.

I spent ages scratching my head with variuos "Open tray" and random stuttering till I noticed my latest backups looked almost like blanks.  I bought a new burner and had no problems since.

What brand disc you using.  I know some people have problems occasionally with cheap off brand or memorex discs.  Best bet is to try Verbatims and maybe a different burner.

I will try older ( That I know working without read error ) burning game to see if I had the same result.

Can I use a laser from an old Hitachi bricked drive that I have if it's the case?

The brand of my blank dvd is Fujifilm Dvd+R DL and never had a problem before.

no but you can use the laser out of a benq i would try re flashing but patch your dummy F/w into the liteon original that comes with J/f first so you have Laser's calib data in the f/w (dummy.bin does not contain laser calib data)

Laser calib data has nothing to do with it.  A lot of refurb drives from MS don't have it anyway...are you saying these don't work properly?

Oggy and others have said many times it's not used/needed and that's good enough for me.

OP..you can only switch Samsung/Hitachi or Liteon/BenQ.

Had a similar problem. Tried playing backup after flashing Liteon to 1.6 Ixtreme. Only Gears of War 2 disc worked on Verbatim. Originals worked fine. Tried tweaking the DVD pots, no luck. All the games burned at 2.4x no errors, and all verified fine.

Grabbed the LT 1.1 FW flashed, and it now reads Verbatim and Memorex media fine.... WOOT!. I have 100 Memorex DVD+R DL's sitting around that I can use now.

I do find it strange none of the discs worked on the IX 1.6 version, but are now good on LT 1.1 FW. I think I used the repack version of Ix 1.6 and thought I saw somewhere that it had issues.

All good though now.
