Replace Drive Of Banned Xbox 360
« on: August 29, 2010, 12:40:00 PM »

My Xbox 360 is having trouble with most of my discs (which is really annoying) so I'm looking to replace it. Can I just do this without troubles? It's a 1st gen banned Xbox 360 with a flashed/modded Samsung MS28 drive.

The plan is to replace it with another Samsung drive I guess.
Are there any troubles I should expect when trying to do this?

Dump firmware from original, flash to replacement drive, done.
whatever you do, don't lose the unique dvd key on the original.

You could even move the logic board from the original to the replacement, easy and done.

buy a sammy drive and replace the boards.

To replace the board you unscrew 4 screws that hold the bottom plate.  You will then remove the plate and see the board.  You release 3 ribbons, take out two smaller screws, and do the same to your drive.  Replace the boards.  Screw them in. Put the ribbons back on, put the plate back on and screw it in, and thats it.

The ribbons can be pulled off but your are supposed to use the "tabs" to release them.  Just gently push the tabs out and the ribbon should be free.  To get a ribbon back in, put the ribbon in then lock the tabs by pushing them in.

Right, Thanks.

So when I replace the boards I don't have to re-flash either?

When I get a BenQ, do I have to replace the boards as well?

If you get the same drive and swap the circuit board you DO NOT HAVE TO FLASH ANYTHING!

I'm glad you made this topic, I have the same drive, a Samsung in which I flashed a long time ago.  Bought this back in 2007, and crossed my fingers - it never had any issues until just a week ago when he started having graphical glitches, and freezing up during gameplay and now the dashboard.  Then I got the red rings of death.

I didn't want to go through the hassle of flashing again, and I do have a spare box, I thought I could just switch the DVD drives and all would be good.
