Drive is Lite-On..

Drive powered by 360.
360 grounded to pc chassis.
Used intel sata chipset.
ensured half open, etc

I put the 360 back together and took it to test it and make sure it works. I put in original MW2 (also installed on HDD) and sure enough it booted and I played Spec Ops for like 5mins. Then, after burning Blur at 2.4X onto a Windata DVD+R DL I put that in and sure enough, it worked like a charm. I did the first race then I turned off the console. About an hour later, I turned it on, took out blur and put in original Resident Evil 5 and the game got to the cutscenes and it gave me a dirty disc error. I put in original Gear of War 2 and it gave me "open tray" close tray etc. I put in blur and after turning the xbox on and off many times, it loaded and i played it, it didn't freeze or give an error. Thinking the problem was solved, i put in Res evil 5 and it loaded the beginning and it only showed subtitles (no video) and immediately gave disc read error.

I have no idea what is wrong, I did some internet research and the only thing I found was that if you don't unplug the ribbon cable to the laser it will burn it out. Some people say the flash is bad, but according to JF, its perfect. I still have the DVD key and all the dummy.bin stuff so I'm not sure what I should try next.

Currently I am going to leave the 360 unplugged until morning and let it power cycle. If it is the laser, can you guide me on a cheap quality replacement?

I dont know who to ask!!!!

I didn't use a probe or anyhting... Just SATA connection. At first it would only show up in BIOS but not in JF running in Win7 x64 so I ended up installing XP onto a spare drive and it show up in JF after a couple attempts.

This is exactly what I did:

1. Find drive i/o port
2. click lo83info
3. tray half open stuff
4. got key, saved files
5. loaded dummy.bin in firmwaretool32, autoloaded ixtreme
6. erased drive (clicked erase liteon, power off/on, success) ---> vendor mode
7. click write, successful
8. outro reset

I don't understand why the backups and the originals would still occasionally boot if the keys were incorrectly flashed. If the the flash was incorrect then why would it load at all?

I saved to file my hacked fw.

What should I do now? how do I reflash the drive? And does JF work in win7 x64? because i just fixed the raid0 array after installing xp on the spare drive i had

I appreciate any guidance, its a great forum you've got, I've been reading for weeks until I signed up today.

If both originals and backups only play once in a blue moon then it's your laser.  If you're in the UK then modtraders.co.uk are pretty good but no clue about the US.  A BenQ laser will fit just as well.

Yeah, It's your laser, I bet. I don't get it, I've seen numerous people like you. It's like they are flashing their drives in a farm or some dusty sh*t (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

so the "unplug the ribbon cable" wasn't a myth?

Is this good: http://cgi.ebay.com/Xbox-360-HOP-141x-141B...#ht_1327wt_1137   ??

Also, I want to buy a good spare DVD drive just in case, what should I get? Does it have to be liteon?

I would be trying a pot tweak and a lens clean on the drive before buying a new one. Also, if you do have reading problems, the first thing you should be doing is binning the cheap disks and using Verbs.

tried the pot tweak today, and it worked for maybe 20 minutes... so i ordered the laser off ebay

i'm gonna return the windata discs and go buy some verbatims when i get a chance.

So many people have read errors after flash with liteon its ridiculous. I'm pretty confused as whether its ESD, shorted contact, lack of laser calibration, weak/shitty laser....

idk but im gonna give the new one a shot and then its time for a new drive
