USB to SATA wont work. You will need to find an old PC with a SATA port.

Also which 83850c version do you have? There is a huge difference between a 83850c V1 and a 83850c V2 when it comes to how it is modded.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, how do I find out which version it is? It was manufactured in June 2009. It came in the console sent to me by MS as the original had RROD. Thnks

Its a V2, as displayed on the sticker. I have seen a video on youtube which says you can hack using USB to sata cable. Any other way as I have a netbook my Laptop with PCI has died few weeks ago.
Thanks once again

step 1: make friends
step 2: see if they have computers with sata or free pci slots
step 3: use their computer

usb to sata may be possible but no guarantees. you would probably want to use jungleflasher as its got a pretty simple interface and you wouldnt be able to use dos with usb anyway

Then you will also need to learn how to cut traces and solder to do that drive. You can learn how to mod it HERE.

Not much, 50 cents worth anyway.

Some thin wire (take apart an ethernet cable), soldering iron, exacto knife for scraping and cutting traces, one 22 Ohm resistor and an Xbox for the power.

Here

The answer to your other question is still no.  Get yourself a PCMCIA VIA 6241 card and avoid the inevitable problems you'll have without one.

I got the resistor from Maplins for about 3p, soldering iron the same, CS18 with a fine tip for about a tenner.  I got the VIA card such as this from Ebay.
