Long time reader, first time poster  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Heres the story, I got this unit from a friend for next to nothing. Its a Elite Jasper unit with the Liteon Dg-16D2S (firm 7485c). He tried to extract the key with homemade probe and I'm guessing something went wrong..lol.

The console will not boot with the Dvd-drive connected, the console light just flashes and there is no video on screen. If I disconnect the Dvd-drive, the console comes right on and works as it should with no problems.

So I pulled out the drive, took the cover off and I found this burnt/black trace:

(IMG:http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr313/torcherdsoulz/360%20Stuff/1c49aa74-1.jpg)

I have not tried the drive hooked to a PC yet to see if it will show up, I'll update when I try that out.

I've been outta the modding and hacking scene for minute since I got my other 360's flashed and working good. Is it possible to get the keys from the vault yet other then Jtag yet ?

Any other advice with this ? the console works great without the drive hooked up, so I'd like to salvage this console and sell one of my older units since my others are Falcon consoles.

Thanks in advance guys !

look right above where you circled there is a missing resistor...loks like it was scratched off. check the top of the board and see if there is anything burnt out...im guessing the point he burnt out could just be bridged and replace the resistor...and every thing would work fine. Your xbox is freezing because of hardware failure, same thing as if you were to pull out a harddrive while your pc was running  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

p.s. chances are your pc will not recognize it because where it is burnt out looks like its near a power input

killer skittle thanks for the reply !

The part where it looks like the resistor is missing, does have a resistor from the factory I think. I checked couple pics I found on the net and the spot is blank, with no resistor :

I'm going to pull the board off the drive and see if its burnt under it at all....will post back in a few !

Looked all around the bottom of the trace on the bottom side of the board and the only thing I could find is the same burnt spot as on the top, around the same hole/trace.

Heres a pic:

(IMG:http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr313/torcherdsoulz/fa00a036-1.jpg)

Where do I go from here with this ?

I tried it in hooked up to my PC and I couldn't get the PC to even see the drive.

How would I fox the burnt/black spot ? How do I know where to go from here ?

I just need to get the damn key off of the drive, I don't care if the drive fully works or not

there are no resistors that go where those "missing resisitors" are.

as for the burn, just get some flux and some lead. tin a wire properly, find where that trace goes to. join it together with the wire. secure the wire make sure it's not touching anything else. put it back together and try out. I just reworked a lite-on that was pretty burned, needed 4 traces repaired. Now works flawlessly.

gently scrape the top coat of the board over the trace until the copper shows, apply a little flux, run lead over it to tin it, then it will attach to the wire properly. try to keep wires flat to the board.

i was taking a look at that close too, seems to me that trace is connected to ground... so.. find a ground point and tie it up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

ALSO, it looks like its the result of inverting the power connector which it seems alot of ppl do.. normally this can't  be recovered...

anu|b|iss thanks a bunch for the post !

Since its just the holes that look burnt, what exactly would I be jumping ?

Try and see the drive in JF.  If it's completely dead then I think you're in trouble.

I'd give dre@m a PM.... if there's anything that can be done, he'll know.

anu|b|iss,

You have no idea what you are saying. Burned dot is GND so no need to fix it.

MDKMDK,

Measure resistance 3,3V to GND like this.
Is the MT chip getting hot?
Measure voltage DC r707 hole to gnd and r708 hole to gnd.

Thanks !...Been away for a while..Heres the results:

Measure resistance 3,3V to GND = None (0)

Is the MT chip getting hot? = Yes with in a few seconds of turning it on.

I couldnt get the volts from the r707 or r708 because as I give the drive power, I can smell it burning  and see a little red ember with some smoke from the same spot in my first post.

Thanks for the help and now what should I look at ?
