Bricked Liteon 93450c
« on: May 03, 2010, 04:01:00 PM »

So, I've always heard that its impossible to brick this drive..
Well I think i did it.
I cut the traces, but made a mistake. I did the 3 cut method, but didnt bridge around pad 101. I tried getting it into vendor mode (using the vampire) forever.. finally i cut pad 101 away from the trace, but since it still wasnt bridged it wasnt working. So i finally rejoined the trace (leaving pad 101 seperate) and voila, it worked. I got the keys/etc. Went back, resoldered everything and plugged the drive back into the computer (I had left JF 1.71 beta open, where i left off from getting the key) and just hit Liteon erase. It erased it, but the drive didnt intro correctly (they never do, btw) but it had a weird status code, and my normal trick of outro/intro didnt work.
Now i cant get the drive to read at all. Its like its completely fried. I only get status FF and when its plugged into the computer it won't eject (its erased) and the laser isnt lit (is this normal?).
I have no idea what to do. I've tried dosflash, l-o-eras, hotswapping from a working drive while in dosflash (gives me a different error code, but i think its completely incidental because it gives that code even when the bricked drive isnt plugged in 0x7f i think)
I've checked all my traces with a multimeter and everything is fine. All my traces are connected and nothing is touching ground.
This is my friends 360 and I dont want to have to give him mine, although i will if i cant fix it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

make sure you didn't short out when repairing your traces.  send loe to the port the drive is on and see what u get.

I've checked each trace to ground with a multimeter. Nothing is grounded out. Is that what you mean?

pic of the pcb would be nice, this is probably either a case of you are shorted, or were shorted and fried something.  since you did manage to dump the drive, you can always get a new liteon from fleabay or even just look for a new pcb.

Yeah, never claimed to be an expert.. haha.
I've done 5 or 6 of these though, and after my first one i haven't had any trouble.

its all good, your soldering isn't half bad to be honest.  my guess would be that via, check the 2 points i circled in the pic for continuity, if they don't have continuity, then solder a wire to their traces.

Well, I'll be damned.
No continuity.
We might have just become best friends.
Soldering a wire now, I'll report back.
and THANKS!

Ok, I soldered the wire to the traces.
Now i get status 0x80 , so that means i'm getting somewhere, right?
I made sure to check all continuity and made sure nothing is touching ground.
Everything seems good..
Here's a picture:

your jumper wire has bare wire going across 2 traces, see if it shorted out on the other trace.  maybe use a little longer wire and line up the wire w/ the trace so when it curves off of it, it is insulated.

Also check 1.8v trace for contiunity incase youve sloppily cut that.

Its the one above the 101 / 3.3v trace.

I've got continuity across all traces.
As for the bare wire, it's not making contact. Any other ideas?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

if you have continuity every on all the traces that were cut/soldered on and not to anywhere else from them, and it still won't work, then your board is fried.

I am willing to look at the board for you before you do something that can't be fixed.

PM me if you want.
