Issue With Jf On Windows 7 64-bit
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:04:00 PM »

As the title suggests, I'm having an issue using the latest versions of JungleFlasher that are Windows 7 64-bit compatible. With Lite On 7xxx drives, I can get a successful dump from them, but then once I do the erase and try to set the drive into vendor mode, my PC will start freezing up on me... as in it will freeze for about 5 seconds, then work for about 2, freeze, work, freeze, etc... until I turn the drive off.

With BenQ drives, pretty much the same deal, but so far I've been able to at least dump the firmwares, and in one case I was actually able to flash the drive too without any issue, but half the time my computer starts freezing by the time I get to the point of flashing the drive.

I'm using a via 6421 chipset PCI sata card, with the Via 5.80G drivers. I've used the patchguard method to allow me to use an unsigned version of portio64.sys and I run JF as administrator so it'll actually work with the portio64.sys file.

One thing I recall about how I set things up on my Windows XP partition is that the default Via drivers would cause the system to lock up with working with Lite On drives because the drivers would do "polling" to the drive, so I had followed the instructions to install Uniata drivers in place of the Via ones, but unfortunately I could not find any 64-bit versions of that driver, so I'm pretty sure that solution is out (and I already tried tinkering around to see if I could still somehow getting the 32-bit driver to work, but as I'm sure you guys know, that didn't work out at all).

Anyone have any suggestions on this matter, or do I have to stick to booting into Windows XP to flash drives?

You need to remove the VIA drivers. If you download the Jungleflasher manual from the link in their page or in the program itself, it explains how to correctly remove the VIA drivers from windows 7 x64 bit. Its quite easy and it works. That's my setup as well.

Oh, right. I remembered seeing that step in the old way of getting portio.sys working on Windows 7 64, where you had to run in test mode... I had done that once, but I believe I had to reinstall the drivers later, and forgot to do that a 2nd time. Thanks for that... unfortunately I don't have a drive on hand to test it with, but I'm hopeful that'll solve my problem. If not, I'll be back (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

anytime i remove the via drivers i can never get JF to find my via ports, so i just leave mine installed. i run into this problem sometimes, but i just keep trying and i can usually get through it. if not, i just resort to using iprep to do the flashing process

if someone can tell me how the hell i get JF to see my VIA ports after uninstalling them, i'd greatly appreciate it

You uninstall the RAID drivers not the full VIA ports haha, make sure you have the new JF as it auto installs portio and reduces crashes. I still use dosflash, I just use JF to inject keys, dosflash has never once given me a problem and it is pretty easy to use. Make sure you are also using your primary SATA port and if it still crashes disconnect all your dvd drives and unnecessary hard drives

goodluck

This is how i do it (pretty sure i got it from jungleflasher)

go to device manager and disabled the sata raid driver.

go to windows/system32/drivers

find VIAMRAID and move it somewhere where you can find it later if needed. delete it from the drivers folder.

go back to device manager and enable it.

yep thats right haha, is portio installed or does it install when you launch JF, windows 7 64bit is a tad buggy when it comes to JF, also which version of JF are you using and are you using primary sata

I've never had any problem when using Jungleflasher with Windows 7 x64. In fact, in my case its the best experience I have had with Jungleflasher. I always use the latest version of Jungleflasher (1.73 at the time of this post) and I use the patchguard disable method that was posted here not too long ago.

I always had probs like this and would scare me thinking I bricked the drive.
Try using dosflash in dos if you can, that always worked for me.

grimreaper, i'm not sure what you mean by "full VIA ports", but is this not the correct thing to disable in the device manager?

(IMG:http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5772/capturexlu.jpg)

if i disable that, JF thinks i don't have any sata ports

and i am in fact using the newest version of JF, and my portio64 drivers are installed correctly

you need to disable it, then go move(or delete) the driver file in the drivers folder, then re-enable it.
