Spoofing - Long Term Solution?
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:26:00 PM »

i have a very basic question about spoofing.  is it a viable long term solution or just a test method to see if a lite-on read is good?

i have an original key from on a lite-on, but no drive.  i also have a benq that isn't being used for anything.  can i use this drive as a long term/permanent solution?

AFAIK the 360 will take any drive you give it as long as the key matches.  You don't have to "spoof" anything at all, just the key itself.

This comes from 360s coming back from repair centers with different dvd drives and it not seeming to matter.  Right now I've got a Benq with LT in a 360 that originally had a samsung and it's running fine.  I might get banned, but we'll see, I guess.

When I got my Xenon back from MS repair the DVD drive was updated to a new Benq, but the keyvault was also updated to match the new drive's inquiry string. Changing DVD drive and just cloning the key doesn't seem like a safe solution. But spoofing is probably not safe either, so I guess it's just a matter of when you're getting banned.

IMO both drive switching and drive spoofing are riskier then using older ixtreme firmware. I'm sure microsoft has set up automated flag systems to detect both drive angle deviation/stealth checking, and drive information changing. However, when they take a closer look at the flagged system, it seems like they would tend to ban systems with different drive information than originally set up more often then they would with systems whose firmware behavior is acting in a somewhat abnormal manner. This is just my opinion however, there is no solid factual basis behind my claim. Honestly, I've been running 1.61 online for the last year with no problems, however I assume its only a matter of time so I bought another console off ebay for cheap so I can use that one if my original console gets banned. In the end, I save a lot more money this way, and considering the amount of wealth microsoft has already accumulated, I don't think they will be hurting terribly by my actions.
